This performance should be watched over by the whole team, and used to learn some valuable lessons. We are not good going against an aggressive and effective press. I know you need the other team to set up in a way that suits it. But I was really surprised we rarely tried contested balls into Joelinton or Isak, with players around them. We did it against someone like Villa away from memory and someone else who I forget. Of course against Spurs, it is more the ball in behind as they play so stupidly high. Every time we tried to get round their press. You could see another chance for them coming. Like watching a car crash in slow motion.
Pancrate1892
It's ridiculous how good Bournemouth are when you consider they had to sell solanke. But the money is reinvested wisely and they are stronger for it. They are probably tactically the most effective football team for what they have

Outplayed across the park. Bournemouth looked sharper, quicker, more incisive. We looked like 11 blokes who’d never played football together before. The run was always going to come to an end but to come such a pitiful end like that is shocking. They had 11 fit senior players. Appalling stuff. Sandro was enough of an outlier that I think he's the only player that could escape criticism.

I remember us being linked. He was good at Leeds. The injuries are a killer though.
Ikon
I’m not too surprised really. The warning signs were there against Wolves I thought. We also lost the ball way too many times and looked quite sloppy. Today probably even worse. Today we played against a proper side though. Very disappointing nonetheless. Sometimes these results are needed though going forward.

Yorkie
Kluivert gets the headlines but Christie was exceptional. Our midfield has been class but he won that battle today.

Abacus
Too many off games and sloppy passes today - they effectively smothered Bruno in the middle and both Murphy and Gordon had games to forget out wide. I do wish the ref had been a bit stronger with the fouling and issuing cards early on, but equally we didn't cope with it and I really doubt it would have affected the game. Bournemouth were definitely the better team today anyway, both individually and tactically - it happens. We're still in a great position both for Europe and a possible cup final regardless, so I'm not going to let it ruin the weekend and look forward to us bouncing back instead. SUPERTOON
Think it will give us a chance to reset, week between games now and a chance to get back to winning ways against Southampton.
54
The most annoying thing about that result was that the Newcastle hoodie I got for Christmas, that had seen in 6 wins, has lost its winning "juice", so now it will go into the pile of shame for its superstitious mystical powers have come to an end. LionOfGosforth
Hate losing the early game. Not a better feeling to have won and then go on and relax and watch the other games. Don't feel like watching another kick this weekend after that

matta
They were so much better than us and fully deserved it. Barring injuries, no major tweaks really needed.

Pretty shocking how well they bettered us. Edited 17 hours ago by KaKa

There's something about watching a Newcastle team limp to a hearty defeat that's like a weird masochistic comfort blanket. I'm always expecting it to arrive at some stage. robbo_11
Disappointing, but we gave chances away against Wolves and Bournemouth were great today and more likely to take advantage. A game we need to move on from and look to bounce back against Southampton. Majority of the players were below par and they nullified us in attack. We didn't dominate in midfield and defensively were poor with their wingers pushing Hall and Livramento back. I thought Dubravka made some good saves and would likely keep him in goal when Pope comes back due to his form over the last 10 games.
The Bonk
What I’m annoyed at the most is they do this (play style) every time we play them and we’re none the wiser for it. I didn’t see anything different from us, either, played right into their tactics perfectly and got pasted.
Scoot
Really poor performance today. But that's without taking anything away from Bournemouth. They completely outplayed us today. Add to that our passing was atrocious and it all adds up to a heavy defeat. Let's not dwell on it though. It was a bad day at the office. Everyone has them. SAK
Couldn’t deal with their press, our passing was sloppy, slow offensively and defensively. Things for Howe to work on. Need to get some pace into the centre of defence in the summer as the back line apart from Livramento is slow. Joelinton for all his fighting qualities lacks finesse, when he had a couple of opportunities to drive forward he couldn't take the ball his stride under pressure and lost the ball plus could have got himself sent off with that tackle. Hall was pap today and his failure to trap a dropping ball nearly put them in a couple of times. Livra wasn’t much better with loose passes and being bullied off the ball. Bruno, not a good day at the office, takes too many risks near our goal under pressure. Isak and Gordon, a lot of huff and puff but no quality. Dan Burn wayward passes putting us under pressure, Botman gets a bye because of his return from injury but he looked slow and on one occasion nearly tripped over his own feet when he was under pressure. Not sure why the defence didn’t use Dubs like in previous games to escape the press? Dubs, some of those shots were saveable. Tonali the only one that can hold his head high.
