Southampton vs. Newcastle United: 25/01/25 @ 15:00 (No UK TV)

Only concern I have about this is that one of the ways that Southampton are terrible is largely them missing chances. They're not a team that can't string a few passes together or can't create chances, they always look not far away from clicking if that makes sense.

Here's hoping yesterday was a complete blip and we have our energy back.

Agree with that, they've had horrible hammerings but they play decent stuff and just can't seem to quite make it happen consistently in the final third. If we're off in any way again, this could be a lot stickier than it should be.

They'll have gained some confidence from today's performance like, if we think we can just show up and roll them over it's gonna be a long fucking afternoon. Hopefully Howe has given everyone a kick up the arse.

Anyway, not like us as a club to be charitable to teams facing a prospective record-low points tally, I'm sure it'll be fine :bluestar:

Valid points, but they have six points. "Can't quite make it happen" is a generous appraisal.

If we're on it, which I'd be suprised if we're not, we should win comfortably.

I think the last two games will have given them confidence.

Better side for an hour at Old Trafford. Piling pressure on at the end today and sounded unlucky not to get a third.

If we are back to our counter attacking best and the press works when we decide to go with it. I think we’ll get plenty of chances ourselves, at least.

At 3-0 down today everyone was licking their lips. Couple of consolation goals doesn’t change that. Absolutely no excuses for not winning this one.

Wasn't just that tbh, I watched them cut through Man United time and again the other day only to inexplicably not score.

All I mean is that the difference between them being good and bad is a fine margin. They've stayed on the bad side of that margin but it can change.

It's not a huge concern, but it is the only one I have.

Thought they looked decent against Man United but…. It’s Man United. Really hard to tell if it was down to Southampton or just how shite MU were.

I get your point and certainly mentality has to be bang on but I’d be very surprised/disappointed if we don’t take all 3 here.

Must win if we want Champions league.

The fact they play nice football and don't sit back might play into our hands, they're not as direct as Bournemouth, won't have as much bite and have nowhere near as much quality at the top end of the pitch.

Should be a comfortable win, if we're back on it. Schar for Burn, but unchanged outside of that for me. Bringing Trips in isn't a good idea as they have bags of pace out wide.

We don't need to over commit in this game. Southampton will gift us chances because their back four are terrible under pressure.

Let them play their way into trouble but please, please, don't give them encouragement by leaving gaps.

If we get our foot on the ball for any real length of time, we will be in business.

To be clear, I wasn't saying I expect us to lose or anything, just that it might be a lot closer than some are predicting and we need to be on it.

They are getting drubbed week in week out. We are quite lucky this is the game after we got one ourselves, perfect opportunity to get back on track and showing a far better attitude. If players are tired don't start them.

Fair. Goes without saying we need to be on it, you get nothing for free in this league.

We just need a committed, professional performance. I’m not bothered about thrashing them but we need to get back on track and take advantage of the fact Bournemouth play Forest and City play Chelsea next weekend. Weekend after when we play Fulham at home the Arse play City and Forest play Brighton at home. Win the next two and things could look pretty good going into some tough fixtures.
