The problem I foresee for the crowd tomorrow is the nervousness.

The team really need to come out strongly to get the crowd settled, a nervy display from the team will be amplified to the crowd.

Absolutely. We had a 3-0 aggregate lead v Southampton and as soon as they scored the atmosphere was one of nervousness, even though we were still in total control of the tie.

Yep.  Southampton semi was the same and I certainly felt a bit like it myself.  When in reality, they needed two goals just to get it to extra time!

Against Fulham.  The minute the second half kicked off and they went on an early promising attack.  You could feel it in the atmosphere and it kept getting worse the longer it went on.  It just felt like a matter of time before they scored.  Then the fans found their voice for a bit after their goal, we made some changes and actually responded quite well and should have gone 2-1 up.  But it's a shame we waited until that point.

I think the years of false dawns and not winning anything has done a number on our fanbase.

The 6-1 against Spurs.  When Kane scored and got it back to 5-1, they started having a few attacks and should have got another from memory.  You could even sense the restlessness then

I don’t care what team you are, and who you are against, but if you were 2-0 down from the first leg, going away from home in the 2nd leg, you can’t be massively confident of over turning it, that’s without acknowledging that the last 2 times you played that team away from home they got beat.

The betting and the stats show that it’s difficult position, hence why we are the bookies favourite to progress, and why so far (touch wood) no team has overcame that deficit before.

I’m not saying I’m massively confident myself, however I’d much rather be in our position than theirs, and we argued before the 1st leg that taking a 1-0 deficit for us back home, would still give us a possibility of advancing.

All in all I don’t think the pressure from the fans is on the squad this time, nor will it be in the squad.

Last time as soon as we got Leicester in the quarter finals, everyone seemed to jump up and think we would/could go on and win it. We went to Wembley, some people paying £2,500 for corporate tickets, others paying £1,000 off people selling their match tickets. A big thing about taking over London etc. The squad had those letters and everything else all put on them. We were up against an average to poor Man Utd team etc.

As soon as we got Arsenal in the semi’s most people were preparing themselves for us going out. If we make it to the final then we’ll play against either Liverpool who we never seem to beat, or Spurs who we should beat, but it would be so typical that they got their ‘elusive trophy’ against us. I don’t think many people will be prepared to pay such fortunes for tickets like the last time. I doubt we are going to have every pub and shop window on Tyneside with the trophy painted on the window etc.

I think the atmosphere will be a lot more reserved, it will probably be of an expectation to lose, with just a reserved hope that we win. I think tomorrow will be the same, many people will be expecting them to somehow fuck it up, to mentally prepare themselves, but hoping that we don’t fuck it up.

Sunderland did similar when they got to their finals at Wembley the first time around. They hyped up getting there for the Pizza Cup and Play off final, and fucked it up. A couple of years later they didn’t hype it up as much, and they won both times.

That is true. There was a lot of ‘fucking hell man lads’ in the minutes after Kane scored 😂

I mentioned the Southampton game last week, and others have echoed exactly the same thing. However, thinking about it more, I’m now coming round to thinking that the fact we’re playing a very good team will actually help.

Sometimes when we’re playing teams that we’re (probably) better than, there’s a bit of ‘howay man, we can’t lose to these’, but when we’re playing against quality, I think there’s a realisation/acceptance that they will have the ball a bit and probably create chances, so the crowd aren’t spooked into nervousness by a single chance or period of pressure.

Having said that, it often comes down to just taking chances one way or the other. If Dembele’s cross-shot had gone just inside instead of just outside the post for PSG that night…

Agree with this.  The fans usually up it for the big teams, as do the players.  The two might be linked and reciprocated between those on the pitch and those in the stands.

any chance of them rotating for this?

apart from the odd draw/defeat they've been quite consistent on all fronts this season

I suppose it's a semi, they'll be happy to take risks given their position, if they go through it'll be some comeback for them and they'll have loads of momentum for rest of season, if they go out they won't be too bothered

need our defence to be fully switched on for the full 90+, no sloppy passing and gifts please

Share the yearning desire for it to be a bear pit tomorrow night. Noisy crowd cheering throw-ins, Burn roaring in their faces, Joelinton bodying their midfielders, Murphy winding people up, Isak running with the ball. So, so, so hope we're as up for it as we can possibly be and make it a special night.

I'm desperate for this game to come now. Sick of all the doom and gloom and panic and worry and all that nonsense. What will be will be. Need to be 200% behind them and make it poisonous for Arsenal. Boo them every time they touch the ball.

Yeah, and also add in chants of ‘1 Michael Oliver’, and ‘Saka come join us’ as well.

“It’s not because we lost 2-0 to Newcastle in the last game – we are going to go there just to play now. We are going to go there to win the game and to score three, four, five. Let’s see. It is going to be another battle and we know how difficult it is to play there. But we have an amazing team and we trust ourselves. We have full confidence in our squad.”

Hilarious that the one he got booked for was the only one that wasn't a yellow, or even a foul IMO

The rest he is desperate for a yellow and lucky not to get sent off that game

Went full nut job when you see the complication. Love the mad bastard [emoji38]

I don’t think it’s that bad either tbh. If he hadn’t mentioned scoring four or five (which given the context doesn’t seem that bad) no one would give it a second thought.
