[FAC5] - Newcastle United vs Brighton & Hove Albion - 02/03/2025 @ 13:45 (Live on ITV1)

I would go with strongest team as Brighton are a good team very capable of winning this

a defeat would also be a big blow for morale ahead of the LC final and increase the pressure to win that

attack the cups and worry about the league later

The cups are also a guarantee of a European place next season, obviously if we win either

It can’t be underestimated how important staying in the FA Cup is, if we lose the Carabo final which is expected then at least it won’t be all doom and gloom, it might even spur us on for another go in the same season. Question - how many teams have got to both cup finals in the same season?

Boro lost both in 97

[emoji38] oh god can imagine if that happened.

I'm trying to accept what will be will be with regards the Liverpool game . But if we lost two in the same season then it would be hard to take. The curse would feel very real.

Ah man, this isn't going to be a good watch if Anthony Taylor is ref. His games tend to become stop-start messes with loads of random cards.

Obviously not the thread for a longer discussion about it and may have already been mentioned in the ref one, but there seems to be a trend now where the refs blow up for fouls but make a point of wanting to keep their cards in their pocket until around 60 - 70 minutes, after which they're dishing them out for everything.

No doubt it's some daft "managing the game" directive from Webb but surely they must realise if they're letting fouls go unpunished other than the free kick they're going to lose control/the game looks like a farce? Possibly some mitigation where teams are clever and different people take turns fouling (see Bournemouth in Jan) but there's still nothing stopping a ref giving a card to stop that either.

A huge match to keep us in the competition and ironically there’s arguably a greater chance of winning the FA cup with Liverpool out.

Nah, his card count has fell off a cliff since the start of the season. Didn’t actually give any out in the West Ham game on Thursday.

Gonna say this will be a cracking game and we’ll piss on them.. but could come back to bite me on the arse coz I’m 6 Guinness’s in at the moment.

If you’ve got a ticket tomorrow I hope you’re not sitting in front of me…

Just win, I don't care how, just win, such a great chance of another final and a better chance at silverware than trying to beat a rampant Liverpool team.

Sort of agree. But you’d still potentially have to face Bournemouth and/or City at some point. Both have hammered us recently. We gave Liverpool more of a game than either of those and without even playing well. Were hardly blown apart on Wednesday.

Just get through any way possible like you say and then hope for Preston at home!

What we thinking line-up wise?

Depending on fitness, I'd go:

Pope

Trippier

Botman

Burn

Hall

Tonali

Miley

Big Joe

Osula

Wilson

Barnes

Aware we may not have much choice, but that front 3 would struggle big time for goals imo.
