He has to take the blame for the tactics at kick off. We just stood off them, let them build confidence, and never tried to get at them. At least rattle them a bit and see if they make the same mistakes they have for other teams.

Gas oven went out last night, so at least I've got the misery of getting my wallet out to fix it to take the edge off this weekend ;)

Man City looked like they were just playing the ball amongst themselves to stall time in the hope the game would be over asap to save their strength for their mid-week game. They didn't look dangerous at all until their first extremely lucky goal. I got the feeling it was intentional of us to basically stall the game too until their legs startet getting tired and minds wandering off to the Real Madrid game before turning up the pace of the game, which sounds pretty smart to me.

That plan obviously goes out of the window as soon as they go 1-0 up  We've been good at coming back from losing positions this season, so it was extra dissapointing to see the (non)reaction to their goal.

Hopefully next season we can blow £200m in the winter transfer window if we're struggling a bit...

The gap between us and City is absurd.

If you seemingly accept defeat before a ball has been kicked you’re going to get beat. Teams that cost a lot less than ours have a plan and some fight.

Just seen the goals, wow, some really poor defending amongst them.

Tripps really poor for the first 2, especially the 1st, schoolboy stuff that is not getting caught under the ball.

No idea what Dubs was doing for their 3rd either!

Very odd performance today, so tepid and passive when we’d had plenty of rest and time to prepare. That’s a worry leading up to the cup final as I hope we don’t repeat two years ago when he simply didn’t turn up. Some of this is on Howe, some on the players.

As others have said the squad is stale as fuck and needs a real upgrade in the summer.

2nd goal? Typical shit dive to his right. Unless he went walkabout for the third. I can’t remember. I didn’t think he was at fault, despite it being up the middle. Was fairly close and he blasted it. 1st he just froze and 2nd he should save IMO.

This is the part I regularly get annoyed with when it comes to our midfield set up. 30 seconds into the game, already Foden is in so much space and the pass is easily played to him as there’s no pressure. If there’s no pressure, we can’t be having a flat midfield.

shite defence.

Sometimes it really is as simple as that. There's been a lot of criticism of the midfield, but we were set up quite well until they scored. For some reason both our centre backs were on the halfway line with no recovery pace, and a simple long ball left Trippier isolated against a younger, faster striker in acres of space. That goal was tragic, and we never recovered.

The fact he was isolated was poor but he still didn’t need to try and attack the ball as he did. Marmoush isn’t guaranteed to control the ball but as soon as Trippier comes for it and misses it was game over. It was shite on several levels.

Felt like they identified this immediately and exploited it big time. Bit like the Bournemouth game, it was like we had 10 men and they had 12 at times, they had so much space on the ball, supported each other and still managed to swarm us when we had the ball, isolating Isak regularly.

For all Sky Sports were banging the Isak v Haaland drum, neither affected the result one bit.

Dubravka was in no mans land as well. None of the defenders came out of that well.

Trippier, Schar and Burn at the back against these was really asking for trouble tbh. Not much choice with the cbs but Tino should have been starting.

A PSR doing but we've been desperate for pace in defence for yonks, now. We haven't had any since probably Yedlin.

The last NUFC player to score at the Etihad in the league. Think I read it somewhere. Might be wrong.

Nah, you're spot on. Benitez's sides put up a couple decent showings in this fixture considering the players that were in them. Shown far more than today's AIDS anyway.

schar's been great but his powers are slowly waning.

his distribution hasnt been any near his usual levels, and he's getting caught out positionally.

also miley should be in ahead of willock in midfield.

we need a couple big signings this summer to reinvigorate the team.
