Liverpool vs. Newcastle United: 26/02/25 @ 20:15 (TNT Sports)

Recommended Posts

I assume if he risks Botman tonight, we're going with a back 5, because Howe never drops Burn.

Expecting:

Pope

Tino

Schar

Botman

Burn

Hall

Tonali

Bruno

Gordon

Murphy

Isak

Eddie will fear Liverpool right side, with Hall and Burn doubling up, and when available Hall covers some of the midfield.

Similar to Arsenal cup tie.

Liverpool away? I know we have a particularly bad record there, but it's a nightmare for most teams.

I know, but we're looking to step above most teams. Just feels like we should start at least picking up a few draws here, rather than it being a pretty routine home win

Was at the last league win at Anfield, 2-0 in 93 and it was absolutely brilliant, but they were crap in that era and we were really building with KK. Still, haven't won here in the league since then, 32 fucking years. I mean I know for the majority of that time they've been better than us but it's like they never ever have an off day/night against us.

You definitely can't fluke a result here, especially since they get every decision and seem to get as much time as they need to get a goal if they need one, so you have to be nigh-on perfect in every way.

Small problem in the form of Salah having the season of his life which by his standards is saying a lot. Never mind the rest of their first team save for CF.

I'll happily concede the three points if they promise to give us the league cup, I think that's fair.

We need to be going there to get something and I'm that's the intent.

But let's not pretend anyone regularly picks up points at Anfield. Even an absolute dominant City side struggled with it.

Should have won a couple since then. Most painfully, the first 4-3 game in the 95/96 season comes to mind.

Fair but "should have won a couple" in about the last 30 visits ain't great like . Lost count of the 0-3 beatings we had in the early 2000s. Still we did get a couple of draws, I remember us scoring twice in the last 10 to get a 2-2 one year so you never know.

Great game that, buzzed with them last 10 minutes, Speed got the equaliser if I remember rightly

Just simple law of averages would dictate we’d have won a couple over the years. This record at Anfield is unnatural. I just hope we play with some belief and pride. We’ve got players who can hurt them and we are overdue some luck. I’m just not expecting anything.

In the OP, 2002-03 season. ;)

(bit grim that there’s only footage of 2 league wins and have to rely on draws but it is what it is  )
