Basically Lewis Hall is gonna have to be mint

Additionally the refs actually have to bother there arse to punish Salah for the pushes he does on the left backs when they’re jumping for the ball. Continually gets away with it.

Thus, once again, reminding me of a phrase we used to hear all the time from adults back when we were scruffy kids...

"eeeh, you dirty Arab"

So to counter one of the best attacking right backs in world football and a flying winger who can't stop scoring and assisting.  We're going with one of the slowest midfielders in the league to help out on that side?

I know Bruno covers a lot of ground.  But imagine him running after Salah for 90 minutes

Ideally Bruno doesn't end up in an actual foot race with Salah, more for defensive graft and doubling up which in my opinion Willock has been very poor at all season. All well and good Willock having the pace to keep up with Salah but if he doesn't have the correct mind set to actually track back and put the shift in then it is useless.

Why would Bruno, the centre mid, be running after a right winger that stays high on the full back for 90 minutes? Salah would be Hall's job, but would get help from the LCM.

Weirdly it feels like if we do win this then we definitely will lose the final like [emoji38] no rhyme or reason or logic to it at all, but just feels like if we can win this we won't beat them again 2 weeks later.

Most likely scenario is we lose both of course but still.

So you want to move someone who until recently was getting heavily criticised for his lack of mobility and pace in the deeper role. To the other side of the midfield 3, to counteract Salah and then probably totally nullify his own attacking output in the process?

What do you mean why would he be running after him? like football never becomes open and disjointed. Is he not meant to be keeping up with him to try and bracket him and stop him cutting in? Bit pointless having him there if he can’t get near him.

You’d then be dropping Willock in the process, who actually had a decent game (well first half, they were all shit second half). As well as actually having some pace and ball carrying ability on the counter. He also links up well with Isak and was doing so in the channel much better than usual with Gordon, too.

Miley could also play there and would make more sense than making another unforced change to the midfield.

Salah is an obvious threat but maybe we should look at it another way. He doesn’t do very much defending so we can then have Gordon and Hall bearing down on Trent AA who isn’t the world’s greatest defender.

Also bear in mind that if we can get the ball to Isak in space, he will cause problems for any defender, including Van Dijk.

I think we can score against them. It will depend on how well we can defend.

So maybe the tactic against Liverpool is to just not defend against Salah at all? I like it.

I actually think it is the best way to play them tbf.

If we sit in versus these we'll get dicked.

I definitely was only saying it in half jest, to be honest.

I think there could be something there. Trying to focus on just Salah massively frees up their other incredibly dangerous players.

The thing is we can score goals for fun too when we're "on it".

Lewis Hall has been our player of the season so far and with that, hopefully, we can entrust him to keep Salah quiet, maybe even give him something to think about in the opposite direction.

My biggest worry is doing a number on Liverpool tomorrow and then we get ahead of ourselves and they suss us and dick us in the final

I honestly think the whole backs to the wall mentality, come out swinging, will serve us well in our upcoming games with them.

He was in the game at St James, then Salah scored two and got an assist [emoji38]

Hazy memory says Trent came on that side and instantly changed the game.

Most important thing is to not concede on a hoof to Salah, like we conceded on a hoof to Marmoush (sp?) or had Pope sent off before the last final.

We normally raise our game against the better sides, subject to the cursed fixtures of Man CIty and Liverpool away. Isak has VVD's number every day of the week and they can't handle Gordon on form, going back to when he was at Everton, so there is potential. I just hope we don't give them any presents. I hope the ref doesn't give them any for blatant dives either. If Darwin Nunez magically mutates into Mbappe again, so be it.

A game we need Linton back for

I'm actually fine with him missing this one. I'd rather he be 100% for Brighton and West Hame. We really do need to keep hold of the ball when we get it and that isn't necessarily a Big Joe trait. He can win it back but he doesn't always use it wisely and can be prone to losing it under pressure.

I think it's actually a game where Willock, Bruno and Miley would work well as a three again but obviously Tonali should absolutely come back in for either of Willock or Miley if he's ready.
