Another game where we take the lead and immediately fall back to defend deep, give up all initiative and aim to hit the opponent on the counter. Wish we'd just try to play the same way that got us up to 1-0 in the first place.

It's happening all the time now, pressing just about non existent and then sitting back letting teams come at us, hoping we can then catch them on the counter.

He followed their CF there like he always does. Got done by a lucky bounce though. Schär in a tough spot but he has to step up and pray for offside or start running back a lot earlier.

Nah. 43 minutes gone at 1-0 up and an old experienced head follows him into an area that’s going to leave us totally exposed if we lose it. Daft as fuck.

Him and Gordon are far more at fault than Schar for the goal.

Yup. Schar absolutely has to step up there and close on the man with the ball.

Bruno for Miley 2nd half. The young lad hasn't done anything wrong but the experience of Bruno will make a difference hopefully.

Joelinton should be midfielder off if we need a goal, which we do. When he’s on a yellow, he plays within himself too so don’t fully get his aggression.

Pap first half apart from Isak, really.

Howe setting the team up to rely on Burn and Schar playing throughballs from 60-70 yards out, instead of on the deck and using our midfield, because he's scared of Brighton in transition or some shit. [emoji38]

I wouldn’t mind if we’d actually seen it work, but it’s completely ineffective.

Pretty boring game tbh. The defensive gameplan is fine and for the most part they didn't seem threatening, but then neither did we.

Main issue is we're just so bad at posession football that if there isn't a quick counter on we're completely toothless. It's exactly the same system that's struggled with this for years: one DM comes deep to get the ball, everyone else spread so far apart every pass is risky and there's no-one close to win any second ball.

Basically we set up to counter attack when we're trying to pass out and it doesn't work, and has never really worked for posession ball. We need some variety in our offensive game plan. Not just today but in general.

The whole set up of the team is wrong from the throw. You look at Liverpool and morealess the whole team has shifted across to form a block. We're so slack and still have players occupying space upfield or on the other flank.

We also do this in build up which I don't like, it's inherently risky and we don't have the players secure enough with their touch and pass to mean it's justified imo.

Brighton's passing ability and confidence on the ball is way superior to ours...........as said before, its been like this for some time.

Technically on the ball they are superior. Means we have to take our chances on the counter.

We are not going to be able to play possession or pressing football against this Brighton side.

Agree. It's not well thought out IMO.
