Shit happens. Tindall's done well in home matches where we've basically been able to play our standard game and thrash teams by being better. A step too far when you're away to a very good team, with a very good tactical manager, who have a very specific tactical plan.

If we had a plan of our own, it was hard to see what it was and we definitely didn't have an answer for theirs, it was clear from the off. From there our players couldn't perform to their best and I think it impacted there performance later on in the match.

Not saying the result would have been different with Howe in the dugout, but it didn't look like us under Howe. Just hope he's back soon, this is just a blip and it doesn't affect the players' confidence too much.

Seems pointless rating players because their weaknesses were exposed through tactics more than anything, but what thr hell.

Pope: 6.5

Trippier: 5

Schär: 5

Burn: 5

Livramento: 4

Tonali: 6.5

Bruno: 4.5

Joelinton: 5

Barnes: 5.5

Isak: 5

Murphy: 5

Generous ratings these.

Didn't know how tired they'd be/look. Jesus.

Surely common sense like you said we've played unchanged team for so long they're bound to be tired? Just thought you'd have mentioned it before the match rather than in hindsight

It’s a shit day, but we are still in a strong position, which we should be grateful for.

Fail to beat Ipswich and we’re not worthy of UCL. Beat them and we only need to win half our remaining games at most.

Thought first half was actually a good game, two sides going at it full of aggression. Second half we didn’t show up, maybe the legs had gone after this week, who knows. We lost to a good side chasing what we are.

move on, Ipswich next week. I’d imagine Villa would prefer to be where we are right now.

What's the point of quantity if we never use the players. The main problem in times like this, is that we need to use the squad better. The lack of rotation has lead us to today performance.

And put in who? Wilson who can barely run, Osula who isn't very good, Longstaff who is everyone's boo boy, Willock who blows hot only once in a while? We don't have options to rotate.

Why are you being proper weird? [emoji38]

We were clearly knackered and we have players who are more than good enough to fill in for a game.

To humour you though, Krafth RB, Gordon RW, Miley or Longstaff in for one of the midfield 3.

I'm the one being weird that you think if we drafted in Krafth, Longstaff and/or Miley for this game that this place wouldn't be up in arms?

Again I don't know why this wasn't mentioned before the match - most seemed happy with keeping the same team that's blown away Leicester, Man Utd and Palace easily

Relaxed here. Best team won on the day, but they’ve got City next whilst we’re at home to Ipswich. Think we’ll see it through!

Best part about that is one of them will be off the pace after this game, a nice draw will keep them both at arms length

Aston Villa utilised the loan market to give themselves a chance of handing the fixture pile up at the end of the season.

We’ve done fuck all, have no real quality to bring off the bench even if we do decide to not play the same starting 11 game after game.

Most annoying thing for me is the central midfield for Villa cost them nothing in transfer fees.

Can't believe we didn't try and get Kamara.

They've built up a really good squad, with savvy business.

Hopefully we start doing more of that.

Certain people think progress can only be made by splashing significant sums on first option big signings and it does my head in.

Not at all convinced by the idea of resting players for this match - the options look very limited.  I’d have taken Joelinton off for Willock and Murphy for Gordon (and told Gordon he’s playing RW) well before the 60th minute mind

You look forward and rest players in other games. 1/2 vs Leicester (relegation fodder), 1/2 against Man U (rightly a bottom half side), 1/2 against C.Palace (another bottom half side). We have to start doing this to move forward from what is an excellent position to be in atm.

They sold their second choice striker for £70mil

Shit happens. Had a horrible feeling all day we’d run out of steam. They’re a really good side, fair play.

Hopefully Fulham and Spurs can do us a favour and we’re back to square one. It would be lush finishing as high as possible but 5th will do it. Win the home games and it’s done.

Agree on that one - I did think we should’ve made significant changes vs Palace much earlier (possibly at HT)

Neh, they were all hung out to dry and did what they could imo. Almost pointless rating them really because their individual performances had little to do with the result. Emery had a plan, Tindall had no answer for it and we couldn't carry out whatever ours was.

I’m over it already. Perfect storm of them executing their game plan to perfection and us not being able to adapt or wanting to divert away from our own gameplan.

4-1 didn’t flatter them. Bad day at the office. Move onto next week.

68 points would give us a great shout of top 5 at a guess. So 3 more wins from the last 5 games. Doesn’t seem that unreasonable looking at the games we have left.
