We haven’t spent or bought anyone we couldn’t have if Ashley kept pace with our commercial income instead of giving everything to SD, and allowed the club to spend its own money. Nothing we have done so far is anything that he couldn’t have done. Still reckon we have a weak mentality like you said last week?

Felt like we had the 10 men in the second half but maybe that looked different on TV. I'll have to watch the game back, we did defend well for the most part so the game plan worked and that's all that matters. It did feel like that. They had so much space. Maybe I was freting too much to notice if we were dropping off on purpose, but that was nervy until Bruno's deflection. Can't believe Tim Howard is still saying Jackson shouldn't have been sent off. He looked at Botman, then raised his arm. Robbie Mustoe once again with the sensible analysis.

I do think the early goal had a big part in how the rest of the game developed though. Tonali gave us a cushion and moved the onus squarely on to Chelsea to to the pressing and make the running. They had to push and take chances and that meant we could change the way we played, conserve a bit of energy and hit them on the break to wrap it up and that's exactly what happened. Jackson's stupidity also cost them and it's telling they looked better when he was in the shower than they did with him up front. The red meant Maresca had to change it up and go for it even more. We defended well, held on and did what we needed to do although a second goal shouldn't have been left that late, we had chances to settle it Overall, the result was all that mattered and we got it done today. 3 more points to get and 2 chances to wrap it up - today was the big one though and we deserved it Nice summary

RodneyCisse
One of their players, can’t remember who must have made 4/5 fouls with at least 2 being yellows to no avail. Fucking awful referee.

David Edgar
I genuinely expected much more from Chelsea today, having seen them play differently recently. I'm sure that it'll come out in the tactical videos that our 5 man defence nullified them or something like that, but even still, they opted to play their safe sideways passing game in large first half spells. It goes absolutely nowhere. And is has been proven week after week to go nowhere. They seemed too scared of turning over possession and wanted to control the ball. It just meant that they had zero threat for most of the first half. It made the game easy for us. I expect them to play much more directly than they did in the first half and Maresca just couldn't help himself. Second half was not fun. But we did our usual safety first, we are ahead, game management type thing. But that meant we needed 2 top quality Pope stops. I still think it isn't great that Howe doesn't trust the subs. Fair enough if he thinks they aren't good enough for the situation, but we need to hope that isn't the case next year. Either Osula steps up or we sign a few players Howe will trust in such situations.

He’s just turned 19.

They were scared of our press and they couldn't hit it long because Botman and Burn just soaked everything up, Jackson didn't have a sniff which led to the sending off. The early goal rattled them and forced them to play it safe and that was that.
