2 years

His contract ends in June 2026.  Apparently there's a 12 month extension option.  But can the club simply apply that option without any agreement from the player?

Even at 29 I think hes worth £50-60m in this market, normally.  But with only 10 months left on his contract that value has to drop significantly.  Can Brentford really afford to lose him for nothing at the end lf this season?  When when they could get £40m right now?

It’s 2 years really, Brentford have an option they can trigger.

Yes, thats what its for

Ah OK, i thought these options depended on the specific contract.  Rather than simply being always the club unilaterally extending.  But perhaps not then.

Usually you an option in the clubs favour or the players favour, and it only requires the relevant party to trigger it.

youre basically agreeing at the time its included in the contract to give that power to said party.
