If he pops up with a goal and an assist every game then he does what we brought him here for, but still feel he was our worst player today. The assist came from a brilliant piece of pressing, but it was one short moment and nothing before or after. His goal was harder to miss than hit, and he nearly managed it. We need him to start converting chances like the one Barnes created for him. Hopefully today boosted his confidence and he manages to find some consistent form for the rest of the season.

I don't see it.  He was heavily involved in our pressing and he was a big reason why it worked so well.  Dropping in to get on the ball, he looked miles better and more polished than previous games.  He wasn't consistently having a poor touch or giving it away with a crap pass.  I think he was only offside once?  Big improvement

I thought even outside of the goal and assist.  He looked miles better and far more confident.  Like the early goal did him the world of good and suddenly wasn't trying so hard, that he was playing all stiff and rigid.  Although based on that picture after he scored.  Maybe he was.

Even if his finishing isn't as clinical as Isak's, his pressing is 10x more effective. That was a big factor in the first two goals which basically won us the tie. The goal and assist were thoroughly deserved.

His pressing is good and he seemed more agile and fast, very positive.

Keep mentioning it, but his shooting is weird, not sure I've seen him hit a ball cleanly for us yet and everything falls to his left. That'll need to improve. He scuffed the goal, then completely missed Barnes ball across.

We haven't seen him strike the ball cleanly yet he's still scored 3 goals in open play. I'm hoping that's just rust from the layoff and we'll see him hitting a few pearlers as the season progresses.

I think it was Owen (yeah, yeah, I know) who once said he’d sometimes avoid striking the ball perfectly in front of goal. There’s something in that imo; scuffed shots can be awkward, unpredictable, and harder for keepers to read.

Agreed, its the first time hes really started to look like the Wissa I thought we'd signed but with alot of changes to his role.  There are 2 things at play with him.  Firstly, coming back from a serious injury and getting up to speed.  Then secondly being coached to play a bit differently.

Ozil would deliberately bounce it into the ground

Just listened to his interview on .cock. He revealed an important pre match routine. “Clean shit. First goal, first assist.” I sheet you not.

Looks like The Butcher is onto something

goal poachers often dont have a "great game" - see Haaland.

its about goals and, to a lesser extent, assists.

nowt else matters in the end.

I don’t remember Andy Cole having many match-controlling performances - I also don’t remember anyone complaining when he just kept scoring.  It’s an odd criticism - it’s like saying ‘sure, the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet and made a couple of vital saves, but he wasn’t finding gaps every five minutes with incisive passing’

If Wissa keeps scoring I won't complain.

Feels like recently we’ve had no focal point in attack and been a bit blunt, Wissa missing chances and Woltemade not really fitting the system and looking at bit fatigued (understandably). There were signs vs PSV that Wissa’s getting back to close to his best fitness and he said as much after the match which will make a massive difference in upcoming matches (Fwiw I also think Woltemade will bag more goals too)
