I disagree with this like, just comparing like for like signings:

 

Elanga is atleast comparable to Madueke, Mbuemo and Kudus, while Cherki and Wirtz are quality players, and on paper are better players, the jury is still out on them, it they can adapt to the league etc.

 

With Wissa, he's signing as a backup, it's not really comparable to striker signings the other clubs are making, they're signing first 11 players, we already have that player. Realistically you should be comparing Wissa to Nunez, Havertz and Richarlison.

 

I think they're both really shrewd moves for different reasons.

It doesn’t scream a transfer that’s going to conclude quickly given their recent influx in wads of cash.

yes Wissa is a back up but compared to Ekitike & Pedro is very underwhelming and he’s 29 in a month. Also I guess we are scrapping what ever plan we had to play pedro/ekitike & isak together.

 

Maybe it’s just the way the whole window has gone just feels very meh.

Not for me. I like Elanga but Gordon & Isak both wanted by Liverpool and Bruno and Tonali make up 2/3 of one of best midfielders in the league.

Hopefully this will allow us to distribute funds and spend more on a class CB or a ready to challenge the 3 midfielders. Happy with this if it goes through at sub 35m let's hope we dont have to compromise on all targets this window.

Wissa would be an upgrade on Wilson but he's hardly transformational.  It's way too early to say Elanga's impact but he's still got a lot of development to do.  We've got a lot more spending to do to say this has been a transformational window.

The problem is we were never getting those players. It’s why the strategy was wrong. Hope we’ve had a reality check. If we can get the boy from Atalanta, that has the potential to be a great signing.

Gordon was called worse than shit when we signed him TBF and then he was Eddie'd. Exactly the same will happen with Elanga.

 

By the end of the window, I reckon we will have signed one "star" but it will be a CB.

We shouldn't have went for Isak, Arsenal wanted him, Chelsea wanted Gordon etc. We should just know our place ?

In the past I would say us offering £30m is an induction we know a deal can be made, but then last summer and this says opposite. It’s an offer way off valuation, and just all a complete waste of time. 
 

As soon as Spurs offer, he’s off there. Previous manager, UCL too and doesn’t have to move from his London home. So it’s a non-starter straight away.

They signed a Brazilian last season but he hardly played due to injury. Their fans seem to have high hopes for him.

 

Agree it seems like a massive risk though.

It raises our floor, our ceiling is already pretty high, we have a really good first 11, it's top four quality really, our issue has been depth and has been for a few years, especially in the last Champions League campaign, our floor is pretty low.

 

Signing someone who had 23 goal involvements last season as a backup/ rotational option is good business, especially for around £30m. More signings like this and we'll have a squad that can compete on multiple fronts, that's how it'll be transformational.
