That’s one of the main reasons why he has to start for me, because it makes opposition need to think differently.

It’s no longer mark the defenders, press the keeper and it will go long (easy to win back), it’s now it can be punched into a CM / go wide, and we’re on front foot where opposition don’t get the ball back so easily meaning they have to work harder for it.

Across 90 minutes it’s so valuable. Think Ramsdale will also have a genuine bite to his game if he stays in because he would have a genuine chance of going to World Cup, and come World Cup, if Pickford gets injured, he could be 2nd in line.

One of those times where you really don’t need to look at any data or graphs to see this, and it’s something that all fans are aware of. I’d need Ramsdale to hoy several goals in his net before I thought about dropping him

I said it yesterday in the pre-match thread and I'll say it again today, Ramsdale nullifies the opposition tactics of pressing us into going long to return the ball. His vision and execution of the pass are a massive asset, the No.1 spot should be his to lose.

I still don't understand why he wasn't tried earlier like. I got the arguments for Pope being number especially with the direct focus the league has at the minute, but it always felt like we'd watch a PL game with Ramsdale and be wondering what the fuck we were playing at after watching West Ham press us off the park.

As someone else said a few weeks ago, it's harder to get out of this team than get in it. Far too much loyalty shown to certain players, but lets hope this is the start of players not having nailed on places in the XI, regardless of fitness & form.

For all the fawning about his passing he gave Bruno a hospital pass that could've put us in major trouble early doors. It only takes one. He also likes to channel the spirit of Shay Given with his set piece goal line hugging, not commanding at all and something I don't like to see from keepers, that lack of presence nearly bit us with the Barnes goal line clearance too.

Think people will be pissing and moaning when he doesn't claim a cross that leads to a goal in coming weeks if he's starting for the foreseeable. Happy days if I'm wrong but not sure what the gushing is for outside some decent passes.

I would have done it after the Arsenal game. Pope made a couple of good saves that night but second half we just couldn’t keep the ball and a lot of that was due to him.

Not even considering the big errors that led to their winner.

Because teams know they can press us with Pope in the goal which, along with us not having our proper fullbacks, meant we would just get battered away from home to average sides.

Ramsdale won't be as good in goal as Pope (when he's not dropping clangers ever other week), but he was cheap, and we need a keeper who can kick a ball. Unless Ramsdale turns out to be genuinely disgusting he needs to stay.

This is the more important part. Like I said, we were a soft foul Bruno away from a calamity pass, it only takes one.

Interesting thing about that, Bruno afterwards gave Ramsdale a thumbs up, so it’s a ball Bruno wants.

And Pope just lost us a Champions League tie a few days earlier?

Are you saying you want us to put Pope straight back in when fit on the back of what we've seen or something?

Think I outlined my thoughts well enough in prior comment. To me, the praise is a bit inflated after yesterday particularly, and it feels like the forum writ large has gone two footed into Pope after a couple of ricks (partially deserved but as ever we lose sight of the advantages he brings such as being a geet big bastard for crosses). It's not like Ramsdale made any real saves yesterday or kept us in it outside spraying a couple of long balls to the wings, which while decent isn't warranting of the gush to me. Also, pointing out the fine margins and how his decision making re: that hospital pass was to try and counter balance this idea he's made team's stop pressing us or we can always successfully evade said press now he's there instead of Pope.

In short, play Ruddy.

The few great balls he made created goalscoring opportunities though, there was the one through the middle for Elanga which cut them apart, there was one out to Barnes (?) on the left, and may have been another I cannot remember. It's not like people are gushing over him knocking it out to Thiaw.

Teams aren't going to be able to press us in the same way they can with Pope, I don't think one risky ball (which we won anyway?) counters that much. You can see it with your own eyes and the data will back it up as their ability on the ball is night and day.

Let's see how we're doing in a few weeks. Hope Tino/Hall stay fit and play every game until they're 34 for us too.
