His first touch was so out of place in that move Ramsey's first touch there was really poor. Seen Murphy do that previously, but I think he does it on purpose to avoid getting tackled, Ramsey was just clumsy.
Shak
As much as anything, it’s poor long term squad building to not give Ramsdale an extended look in the first team. If he does well then 25m or so for a first choice keeper is excellent business when we are very clearly going to need a permanent GK addition in the summer. If he does poorly then we know next summer that we have to go big on the position. I do have concerns that a keeper that can’t command his box well on set pieces will be exploited quite a bit in this shit new era of long throws and crowded six yard box on corners, that is my main concern over the coming weeks as he beds into the team. Even if he isn’t the answer long term, I think this season he’s unlikely to be a downgrade on Pope all things considered. The upgrade with his feet will at least make us much more enjoyable to watch in terms of how we retain possession so hopefully we stick with him as it’s just a shite watch seeing Pope just bray it aimlessly forward every time. Yep, Ramsdales aerial deficiencies are a lesser evil than Popes distribution. Ramsdale being on the pitch yesterday (along with Miley and Hall in particular) basically meant we could keep the ball when we wanted and because it released pressure it gave us a building block to continue going forward. Id give Ramsdale the xmas period and, as you say, we will have a better picture going into next season.
Shak
Even if he isn’t the long term solution, it’s better for the evolution of our team to have him in there rather than Pope as presumably if we sign someone else next summer he’ll be competent with his feet. Let our lads get used to playing with a reliable ball player back there.

Him and Pope is such an odd combination because the team has to function in two very different ways based on which one is playing.
nemtizz
He's not perfect by any means but it gives us a nice peak into the future once we sign a top keeper. It'll completely transform the team.
McDog
Do we have an option or does he go straight back after the season? Just curious.

nemtizz
Hardest part to replace will be a sweeper keeper. Majority of the time Pope did well in this role just sticks out when he fucks it up. 3 times off the top of my head. Not bad going for 3 years. Agree, Popey was great sweeping and claiming although lately he punches way too much and when he fucks up he does it in style.

Optimistic Nut
I'm not too arsed about keepers making a mistake or two if they're overall contributing to improving how we play and consistently performing well. Sanchez gets a fair bit of stick at Chelsea, but last season in terms of sweeping, crosses, kicking and shot-stopping he was in the top 5 keepers for each area statistically. That over 38 games will win us more points and help the way we play football.

It only takes one. He also likes to channel the spirit of Shay Given with his set piece goal line hugging, not commanding at all and something I don't like to see from keepers, that lack of presence nearly bit us with the Barnes goal line clearance too. Think people will be pissing and moaning when he doesn't claim a cross that leads to a goal in coming weeks if he's starting for the foreseeable. Happy days if I'm wrong but not sure what the gushing is for outside some decent passes. Well I didn't expect it to happen within 2 fucking days. Christ Aaron. Pilko
Just as shit at punching as the bloke he replaced. 2 shots on target, 2 goals as well doesn't look clever.

SUPERTOON
He’s never been a good keeper tbf. People rightfully sick of Pope, but Ramsdale was never the answer.
