There were many occasions where the ball was played back to him which Pope would have struggled with, either with a dodgy control or a slice kick out

 

Some of the passes into midfield were class too and the kind of thing opposition keepers do to us so it was nice to see from us for a change

Pope was quiet against Man City and he’s shit on the ball and at dictating the tempo. So no, I don’t agree at all.

Yep. The next loss, whoever started that game or had an off day. They will be utter shite and everyone will say they need to be dropped. But if we win and said player had a 4/10. Nobody would give a fuck on here because of the result. 
 

FWIW. I didn’t think Ramsdale was particularly good or bad and whether Pope is injured or not. He should start the next few games at least.

I love Pope, he was in goal during my best day as a Newcastle fan, but he does punch when he could catch.

Punches when could catch, can't kick a ball, made silly mistakes. Time will tell if Ramsdale is better but he's 6 years younger, can actually kick the ball and is agile. Pope since his injury has not been great. Loved him when first came in but he doesn't help progress our play and Ramsdale does.

Having Ramsdale as an option, even if unused, made us look so much better in possession today, we were a lot more composed, patient, knowing we had him as an extra ‘footballer’ if needed

Will be interesting to see how the rest of the team adapts to having him in goal for a few games. Also how other teams play against us, we should be able to play much higher up the pitch with him there as he can recycle possession very effectively.

As we saw with Dubravka last season, having a 'keeper who is just competent with his feet makes a big difference to our available levels of control against 'lesser' sides. 

 

There will be trade-offs but the team needs to evolve.

Even if Pope is back quickly, Ramsdale should keep the shirt. Pope has made loads of fuck ups this season, no reason Ramsdale should come out if he's doing well.

Good to see people coming round to how much better he is than he was originally perceived by so many.

 

Seems to have become a figure of ridicule, and written off due to that pigeon clip, but he's better than a number of goalies playing at the so called big clubs.

He wasn't really tested tbf. People are happy the football isn't a bomb at his feet. Hes a decent upper midtable keeper but obviously there's level to this Kaka ask Arsenal fans.

at least the outfield players could play the ball back to him without thinking rather than as a last resort.

was like having an extra player available when playing out from the back.

I was at a lot of Arsenal games the year he came in and they first challenged. 

 

I don't think people realise how highly thought of he was at Arsenal.

 

There was actually some annoyance at Arteta when he brought in Raya to replace him.

The point being that may have been the case then but please ask them now. Raya is an upgrade on Ramsdale legohead was right about that one. 

 

This isn't a knock on Ramsdale either but I'd love us to go even bigger personally and really lockdown the position with the best we can possibly afford.

Well we were looking at Trafford, and so I can't see that happening, as far as going even bigger is concerned.

 

Can't even begin to imagine who that would be really. Even that Marmadashvili that everyone was so sure would be great, has not looked that impressive for Liverpool at all.

Looked great in the Espanyol games I watched and the 2 Barce games Ive seen him play.

If Pope’s distribution was better I could easily forgive the very rare brain fart he has in his locker.

 

But it’s clear what having a keeper who can retain possession through distribution adds to the mix.

 

Eddie doesn’t just drop players though, it’s usually either an injury or suspension when someone else will step up and then he’ll deal with it then. He’s seen fist hand now what Ramsdale can do so I’d be very surprised if Pope just walks back into the team when he’s available.

Yeah, Marmadashvili looked great in Spain too.

 

Judging how all these goalkeepers will translate to dealing with the way set pieces are delivered in the Premier League must be a nightmare.
