His distribution is very good that sets up quick plays. But Howe is turning us into a Bruce still system where we sit In a low block and counter. This doesn't suit Ramsdale as we are constantly defending. We weren't constantly defending at all yesterday like. That's just rubbish.

I’m not saying he was at fault, I am saying he made it easier than it should have been. Pedro is running full pelt, Ramsdale imo should have come up a bit further to close the distance, tighten the angle, reduce thinking time and try to create some doubt. As it was Ramsdale stopped maybe 10 yards from his goal line and it allowed Pedro to shoot earlier, from just inside the box at a static keeper. Pedro may well have still scored but Ramsdale’s position must have helped.
The College Dropout
I agree he wasn’t positioned greatly. He made it an easier chance. Pope would’ve started further in advance and would’ve rushed Pedro more. Probably still scores though. overall - Howe’s success has been built on a toughness and strength. Especially in the first 18 months and even mostly last season. We ain’t give leads away. In the 4th season sometimes we would be against a good team and just see out a 0-0 away from home by going deep, and not letting anything through (Brighton, Arsenal, Man U away). And Pope’s strength as a player was key to that. We aren’t going to our football the top 6 to consistently overcome them. I accept that. But we can outrun and out tough them sometimes out man them. I like that profile of player. That was peak Pope and I want a better version of that. Doesn’t have to be great with the ball for me - just passable. But he does need that presence, that command imo. Ramsdale is just a weak player. It goes without saying but we need more Tonali’s and Bruno’s. Tough as but they can play. I like Ramsey as a player more. But with him and Ramsdale in the team for Pope and Joelinton we lose a lot of character and strength.
The College Dropout
That team that finished top 5 twice and wok the league cup. Sure it had a lot of talent. But what took us over the edge was character. We neeed to replace those with equal characters. Look at Spurs man. It’s a talented squad but it doesn’t have character. I don’t want us to become a shitter northern version of them. The College Dropout
Also I like that about Wissa. Seems a fighter. High energy. Sharp on the press. Aggressive.

There was a moment yesterday when I think it was Miley or possibly Tonali was fouled near the touchline and there was loads of Chelsea players aggressively around him. If Joelinton was playing he'd have been straight over there same with Trippier , same with Wilson , usually to be fair Burn is straight in but yesterday there was only Schar who's that sort of player. We mustn't lose that . The great sides all the players looked out for each other. Keane couldn't stand Sheringham but you didn't fuck with him on Roy's watch. Brian Robson was the same. Kilcline instilled that here initially under Keegan .

There was a godawful moment yesterday at 2-1 when they got in behind us and the situation was screaming for him to come and sweep up, but he was stool still just inside his box. Alternatively the amount of times we held possession because he was capable with the ball on the deck and they didnt press cos he can play the ball. Ones a better shot stopper, the other is a better player keeper.....the long-term answer is probably neither.

Optimistic Nut
Given's shot-stopping was genuinely world class. He made saves in games like the Pope one v Wolves on a weekly basis.

TheBrownBottle
Given’s goal kicks were the absolute pits. He’d find touch like a fly half gaining yards for a line-out in Rugby Union.
