Goalkeeper has to be number one priority in the summer, it's cost us so many points this season.

Still better than the loan midget

You would imagine Pope will start against Palace with Ramsdale going away with England. If Howe is saying that this extra time at the training ground is going to be important then we should use Pope until the end of the season. He has made several errors across the season, but Ramsdale isn't going to be a long term option and in short term better having Pope.

Daft bids for Trafford that take 2 months, before getting him for 40m and realising we paid premium because he’s British

Pope has made loads of errors leading to goals this season.

This isn't a defence of Ramsdale by the way, it's pick your favourite shade of shit until June.

Trafford worth that?

This is really the main thing. There's literally no reason to be playing him if Pope isn't injured. I am not sure what's happened there.

He's crap and isn't even our player and we don't want him long term. Ball goes near him he just starts flapping about like a trapped pigeon.

Season is pretty much a write-off. If Howe had any sense he'd use the last 7 games to try and work towards a way of playing that we can take into next season. Going back to a keeper who bricks it every time the ball goes back to him, then slices it out of play for a throw in 30 yards from goal isn't going to do that.

Would sooner stick with Ramsdale, with view to a better version of him coming in who can just slot in come August, with the defenders and midfielders ready used to that way of playing. The results have been no better or worse with either anyway so I'd go with the one who'll help change the way we play.

While a better and cheaper keeper in Kobel is sitting there.

If Howe is still here I would be more surprised if we don’t sign Ramsdale rather than if we did. Especially if Pope leaves as no way we go out looking for 2 new keepers in the same window.

Even if Howe isn't here we probably need to keep one of them. As you say, we won't sign 2 PL keepers in one window.

They're both good enough to be backup TBH.

Still got Vlachodimos & Pliers to come back off loan at Seville, too.

Takes something to have the worst pair of keepers in the league yet here we are. New keeper top priority this summer.

Ramsdale's been a downgrade on Dubravka. It's a real problem, which has compounded all the other problems.

Ramsdale couldn't couldn't save a word document.

I'm not sure he'll even be in the Prem next season.

He's like a cat on a hot tin roof in his box.  Every save seems to be full stretch and finger tips.  He flaps about a lot of the time when he does come for the ball.  His kicking isn't even that good.  It just looks decent as Pope's is so bad.

WTF he was doing for their first goal I don't know.  Rushing out, then back, then a customary flap.  I was bricking it at every corner and long throw.

Pope isn't the answer any longer sadly and we need a keeper in the summer.  Which we all keep saying.

I would actually explore Vlach as number 2 and a new signing to start. Unless he's completely persona non grata with Eddie.

Otherwise I would keep Ramsdale over Pope but there's not much between them.

The reported fee is £20m.  No way should we pay that IMO.

I think £10m is too much for Ramsdale based on what I've seen here.  Plus he is supposedly on big money.

I agree, Vlach, Ramsdale and Pope are much of a muchness, they're fine to a certain extent as a backup so why not just roll with the one we already spent 20m on as opposed to spending 20m on Ramsdale who is only marginally better at best

Aye so the smart thing to do is get rid of the two most expensive ones, keep the remainder as a back up and sign the best we can afford.

Yeah, I mean fair enough if true. That's why we took him on loan in first place I suppose.

I thought before the match that Pope would have been the better option than Ramsdale against Sunderland, as I just don't think Ramsdale controls the box well at all at corners. But admittedly I may be thinking back to the previous version of Pope.

I wondered if maybe Ramsdale was kept in as a vote of confidence after the Barcelona 7-2. Arguably he didn't do that much wrong there so to drop him would make him a scapegoat unfairly, but on the other hand he never inspired much confidence in that game either and never really has that I can remember.

And it was definitely bad for Sunderland's first goal. I'd absolutely not be making this permanent.

I'd also briefly wondered if Vlach could do any sort of job here as a back up keeper. Never saw him enough in games to know personally, so presumably he's not trusted by the coaching staff.

But on the other hand we've already paid for him and he doesn't seem to have done all that bad for Sevilla from what little I can tell. Possibly he just doesn't suit this league.

I still wonder if Vlach just wasn't tried because he was only signed for PSR. He's an international keeper and no way he's that bad. Probably it was just never on the cards to play him.

If it was a choice between him for free or Ramsdale for £20m I guess people might like to give him a try.
