This was such a stupid signing, thought it at the time. We had such leverage when Isak was going that we could have taken Harvey Elliott, lost 20m on the fee and saved on PSR then used this huge sum on a striking prospect or a goalkeeper or even both. Hes another 'athlete' when we were screaming out for something else having already bought road runner to play on the right.

 

He is what he is and hes here now but we messed this one up and transfers like this were the argument behind the scenes all along. I really don't see him ever being a regular or fit enough to sustain a place

Not sure what's gone wrong with Elliott at Villa but looks like they're reluctant to play him 3 more games to activate his £35m purchase. Isn't even getting in matchday squads.

Joelinton, Burn, Trippier, Krafth and so on, have all been "shite" to varying degrees during their time here.

 

He has looked really neat and tidy but hes clearly playing within himself right now. He will prove people wrong, in time.

Guess new villa DoF doesn't want him, so best avoid any clauses that activates spending £35m. Would expect he gets recalled back by Liverpool in Jan and he's sold elsewhere for like £25m.

More than anything I don’t like the profile  and that he doesn’t look ready to replace Big Joe in that profile anyway. 
 

Signing Ramsey should’ve been contingent on moving on Willock. We’ve got too many CM/LM/LW hybrids on payroll.

Because this is a myth, yes some players improve, some dont. There is a difference between seeing the messiah in everything and seeing reality. Some players are magnitudes better, but overlooking those we are very much the same is silly.

 

Pope cant kick, lloyd kelly couldnt show a man to his weaker foot, kraft still ball watches, willock is very much the same player, burn still cant play LB, Anderson looked lost, ASM didnt defend, Almiron couldnt use his other foot.

 

There is no guarantee he improves and if he does, hes still not a top 4 player which is where we want to be. if youre spending over 40m on a player he either needs to be looking like he reaches that level or is close to that level already. To me hes Philip Billing with a British passport

There is no guarantee he improves but you guarantee Elliott would have improved under Eddie?

no im saying anderson didnt improve with a full season, we barely saw him and when we did he looked indecisive and often gave it away

Eddie does have an ability to get the best out of most players. But they are who they are at the same time.

 

Murphy has become a creative force in terms of crossing. But he's still not a good all round player.

 

Joelinton has been great but he has technical limitations.

 

I like when we sign technically better players - even if they aren't super technical like Tonali. Because it lifts the entire team. We desperately needed that to improve in 2 areas of the pitch. I think if Wissa comes in for Joelinton and Wolte stays, that helps us build through the middle a lot more while stilll hvaing a runner in behind. Not having anyone of real overall ability at RW is a killer though. We needed a baller.

I agree re the improvement thing tbf - plenty of the players we’ve signed haven’t improved after signing.  And it’s not like Villa has a knacker in the manager’s seat, either.

Nope. By all accounts has been a target of Howe's for a while. He was linked with us as early as May and genuine ITKs on here were claiming we'd attempted to sign him last summer too. He came a bit later in the window because Villa's PSR issues weren't as urgent as we'd hoped cos they sold the women's team.

Based on what though? Have you followed him throughout his career or something. Because I for one can see a decent player there.

Gut feeling for me has always been that Ramsey is Willock's replacement ahead of selling him.

 

On paper he should be an upgrade, a strong runner like Willock, but also good between the lines, with an eye for goal and a functioning alarm clock.

 

Weirdly, much like Willock it's about whether he can regain his form after a season or two of injury woes.
