Another hole in the squad that's hopefully been plugged. If he can avoid injuries then he's the type of player who you could trust to come off the bench and use for the last 20 mins of games without worrying too much. Seems like his form has dipped a bit in the last couple of years but he looked excellent for a while. Fingers crossed he can get back in that groove again. Don't know loads about him as far as strengths and weaknesses but he'll get plenty of minutes I'd imagine

Not a chance he’ll play left wing.

He’s coming in to compete with/rotate with/cover for Joelinton.

Agree, which isn't a bad thought because we do lose a bit when Jo isn't playing, and Ramsay doesn't mind nipping the ball off players and driving forward down the inside left channel, so it is definitely a good signing to get cover in that area too and mix it up a bit as he has a lot more forward threat than Joelinton.

I don't know if he's match fit but Villa would be daft to give us him before Saturday surely?

Or whenever the deadline for registering players is

He’s match fit as he’s played plenty in pre-season but I’m not sure how sensible it would be to ask him to say goodbye to all his mates at his boyhood club then go expect him to play against them, especially away, 48hrs later, probably with, at best, one light training session with us.

Well we weren't talking about starting him above Tonali or Bruno, we were discussing the other options. I just think 'not trusted' is an extremely weird way of putting it - Howe is just managing him into the picture as you would expect for a highly-rated young player in a key position (where we already have 2 class players).

Completely disagree.

I am talking about players that can take significant minutes from Tonali and Bruno.  The way McGinn, Kamara, Onana, Tielemans share minutes.

To compete on multiple fronts we can’t have Bruno and Tonali averaging 85 minutes across 7 CL and PL games a month.  They will burn out. It needs to be much closer to 60.

It’s not Howe’s priority to develop players. You can see that in our transfer approach. You can see that from his team selections.

Trust is the right word - that’s how Eddie picks his team.  He didn’t trust Miley or Willock at the end of last season and would change formation to avoid playing them.  Trippier and Barnes are trusted. Doesn’t take much for either to start or be brought off the bench.  Miley is closer to the Osula, only brings him on if the game is won, lost or entirely desperate.

If Mikey has gained a new level of trust from Howe great.

I think TCD is referring to developing youth players, no?

Aye, but he’s got have youth players of sufficient starting quality to have a realistic chance of developing them.

The only one you can hold against him so far is Anderson, and even then, he was forced into getting rid of him.

He can’t just magically develop kids if they aren’t good enough to start with.

Aye aye I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just think what TCD said was poorly worded

Perhaps but theres a clear pathway. Sean Neave has been involved in pre season and hes nowhere near the level.

Both Anderson and Miley were brought into the senior squad. Anderson would likely be a starter for us now, or be closer to Tonali/Bruno/Joelinton than what Miley is.

Its the same old story. If Howe brings a young player in when they aren't ready, we lose games and then the same people criticise him for team selection.

We aren't Man City, we dont have the level of youth players to inject into the side. Thats not a Howe problem. It is improving though.

Aye I’m talking about youth players. I would even include  Tino and Hall here along with Anderson, Miley and Osula.

Howe is reluctant to play them. It took an injury crisis for Hall to get a run of games that earned him Howe‘s trust.

even the older players he’s developed - it’s been out of necessity.  He’s not had any other viable options. With youth players there is usually a more senior player in position that Howe trusts.

My point is Howe is not going to give Miley minutes so that he develops.  Other clubs and managers do that. Howe doesn’t have that mandate.

He wouldn't play anyway now, not enough time to train.

Would Howe give him a spot on the bench rather than putting two keepers or Neave there? I think he might.
