joeyt
Miley's going to get loads of minutes this season assuming he stays fit He's only just turned 19 and coming off a season where he's been injured/ out of form Would be wild to rely on him and Willock as our only midfield alternatives when they're both not showing consistency at the moment

Even if Isak won’t come back it’s good enough for another top 6 finish If Wissa is the only incoming striker then Isak definitely will be coming back into the fold. JT24
https://archive.ph/ymI9k Quote Midfielder will become Eddie Howe’s fourth signing of transfer window as club spend £70m in two days after deal for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw Newcastle United expect to complete the signing of the Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey in a £38million deal that could be finalised on Wednesday. Ramsey, 24, will sign a long-term contract to move to St James’ Park and become the club’s fourth major signing of the summer. It means Newcastle, who had endured a difficult and frustrating transfer window, will have spent close to £70million in two days, having completed the £30million signing of the German defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan on Tuesday evening. Newcastle were locked in successful talks with Ramsey’s representatives on Tuesday and a deal is now said to be very close. Eddie Howe, the Newcastle head coach, has been a fan of the attacking midfielder for a long time. Newcastle had failed in previous bids but Ramsey, considered the ideal age by the club’s recruitment team, has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Villa Park. Villa also received an approach from West Ham United but Ramsey favoured a move to St James’ Park. The deal will represent pure profit for Villa under the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, with Ramsey having joined the club as a six-year-old. He gained 16 England Under-21 caps while at Villa Park. The impending deal will be further relief for Howe, who had spoken at the weekend of his concerns about the size of his squad before a return to the Champions League. The double addition of Ramsey and Thiaw, however, will be seen as a potential turning point. Newcastle have already signed the forward Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for £55million and the goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton on an initial loan deal with a view to a possible permanent move. Newcastle’s major concern remains landing potentially two centre forwards, with huge uncertainty remaining around the future of Alexander Isak before the transfer window closes. They remain keen on Brentford’s Yoane Wissa but there has been no movement yet on a second bid after a £25million offer was immediately turned down. Brentford insist they want £40million. Liverpool have yet to formally increase their £110million offer for Isak, who has moved out of his home in the North East and whose agent has said he no longer wants play for the club. Newcastle’s position on Wednesday remains the same as it has all summer: that the Sweden striker is not for sale. Hanshithispantz
Thought Miley looked great last game tbh. He's also 2 years younger than El Khannous and Wharton, he is very young for a Premier League midfielder. Chicken Dancer
Really like this signing. Seems a bit on the expensive side just purely based off his fitness record over the last couple of years, but if he can get back to what he was before he broke his foot then we've got a very talented player on our hands with his best years ahead of him. Not sure about strengthening a direct rival (PSR) but needs must, and a midfielder is a need. We seemingly like to buy players at a lower ebb than where they have been, and given our record to improve said players I think he will be a really good player for us. But aye, they'd be mad to push it through before Saturday. If they do, I doubt 'he can't play' can't be written in a contract so it would be a gentlemen's agreement that he can't. The College Dropout
33 minutes ago, STM said: Yes but you just blamed Howe. Which was my point of contention. Its a really simple question, would you accept losing games of football if it meant developing players? And if yes, would you accept a worse league position, not making Europe and signing worse players as a result? Also why would Howe stake his job on young players who aren't good enough? Its mental. There were some who were calling for his head mid-way through the two previous seasons. If you are truly talking about PIF and our strategy. Yes I think we are at a stage where we need to start fighting ugly on the PSR front. Investing in our new training centre would be a start, expanding our scouting network etc. No disagreeing on that front.... but I believe it will happen. As for Howe playing young players, he cant play them if they aren't good enough. We cant afford to lose games. We cant afford to drop a single point because we tried to "develop" a player on the pitch. We aren't Brighton and we sure as hell shouldn't aspire to be Brighton. I told you my answer. It depends on what our strategy is. I think our strategy is incoherent and entirely reliant on Howe maximising middling talents. We seem to be buying players for the now and need immediate results. Which is why I don’t think Miley is set to play a lot

Just from a man management point of view there is no way Eddie puts a player in a squad against his former team, at their ground, 2 days after signing/leaving. Ramsey averaged 52 minutes in his final 19 appearances in the PL - which is significant aye. The bad thing for us is that he didn't impress. Positive for us is he was fit that entire period and that type of minutes is what I expect he'll get with us. I don't think he suits Emery though. Transfermarkt says he mostly played LM or LW. This season he will be involved much more as would be expected. Talking about 'not trusting' him is just the wrong way to phrase it IMO. That’s a bit presumptuous isn’t it? No competitive games have been played yet his season. As far last season, he looked worse than the season before. There’s reasons for it I’m sure but you can’t tell me he looked better last season than his break through the year before. It would be nonsensical. I truly hope Miley becomes a top, top player for us but I’m not gonna presume he his just coz EH is his coach.

The College Dropout
Look at Tonali's minutes - it's a consistent string of 90's Bruno G played every game getting an average 86.5 minutes

Which makes him perform worse physically. Tonali could be a Fernandes type minutes monster. But Bruno definitely needs timely rests.
