Feel sorry for him, he has been such a spark in a shit season. Hope we continue to build around him and diversify our patterns of play.

He has had moments but he's as much to blame for the shit season as anybody tbh. He's painfully slow, weak in every challenge despite his size, doesn't hold the ball up - and the whole team is 10 yards deeper as a result of all of this.

He's still adapting to a new league, when you consider other major striker signings for other teams this year he is above average with a very high potential and ceiling.

Today was his worst game for us but those around him with more experience in this league and his coach that has absolutely no plan 'B' are more to blame for me.

Had my fill of him before today but fuck me. Never has a 6 ft 7 player been completely fucking unable to win a header or hold up the ball. You're in the fastest, most physical league in the world, it's sink or swim like.

We could get the ball into his feet more in tight areas, but I've not seen him fashion a chance with his feet once.

Fashion a chance for who?  Our whole front three are miss firing.  As a collective they've been poor.  Woltemade technically is class but there is zero movement around him.  Elanga and Gordon should be the perfect foil to feed of his threw balls.  But the three have yet to click.

Himself? He's thus yet not managed to find a bit of space and get a shot away in a premier league game and we're in fucking December like.

If Woltemade can't win headers, can't hold the ball up, can't run in behind and can't make chances for himself, we're quite limited in what we can do, even if we're not using him right.

I haven't been convinced by him for a moment tbf, and the irony is that - for all the criticism of the transfer window - I wouldn't surprised if he turns out to be the worst of the lot, because he cost a ludicrous amount and doesn't look suited to the league at all. Thiaw is good, Ramsey and Wissa will find their feet (I predict)... Elanga probably saves him but you never know, he does have a good track record at this level.

He just offers absolutely fuck all. Won't attack the ball, can't press, can't run beyond a defender, can't find space in the box. Absolutely useless atm.

He did not attempt to do any of the above since day one. Great technical 'baller' but MIA as a hold up striker in a 433 - And I've not seen a player with less fight since Andreas Anderson.

He’d score shit loads in a functional team. He’s young and still developing. I genuinely think the recent drop off is primarily tiredness. He’s been flogged.

He does all of those things for Germany, so clearly the way we play isn't getting the best out of him (or anyone else for that matter) as opposed to him being shit.

What?

You didn't see Mesut Özil or Kai Havertz?!

Nick's a berserker compared to them!

Couldn't agree more. His honeymoon period is over. He was abysmal today. The first and only header he won all day ends in our net. However, forget about the own goal for a minute, his overall play was shocking. Against a very poor team also.

I think that's a tad harsh on the lad - it wasn't that long ago everyone was singing his praises.  He's technically excellent, has good vision, can pick a pass - our biggest issue is that he's not a 9.

He was always supposed to be eased in slowly, but Wissa getting injured fucked up those plans.

He's been thrown into the deep end in a league that he's not used to. That, and being flogged to death by playing every single game, including internationals, hasn't helped him one bit.

Yeah I see where you're coming from.  He's hit the ground running but I think it's masked some big flaws in terms of him being a striker.  I think he's a lovely footballer but not a striker.

He needs a team who dominates the ball and plays most of the game with 7-8 players constantly in the opposition's final third, in the way Bayern or City do, even Liverpool ironically. It's frustrating watching him being asked to chase down players and contest mostly aimless percentage long distance passes, and occasionally trying to run onto stray balls and not having the pace to make it. We're a million miles away from being a team who can make use of his obvious talents.

To attribute even more competence to Elanga than to Nick is, in my opinion, incredible. :yikes:

Shame on you, forgetting everything Nick accomplished in the first two months?

Elanga is the biggest flop of all the acquisitions.

Seems to have been clearly told to stop dropping deep of recent, too. It's the best part of his game and we aren't even seeing it

Deserves a pass this lad imo. Wouldn’t have played anywhere near as much as he has had Wissa not been injured.

He’s been largely dogshit these last few games, but he’s no doubt exhausted.

He needs taking out for a few games.
