@Vinny Green Balls

The goalposts.

I’ve asked for an example of a poster who does this. You’re finding one off posts from different posters on singular topics.

We do not have relentlessly negative posters. We have:

You joined in November mate.

The long timers on here know there are some relentlessly negative posters and who they are when they see them. Some are still here, some have left.

Don't think it matters all that much anyway, but digging them out now wouldn't be good for anyone.

But I don't think there exists any fanbase where you don't see comments like that at times. I'm sure if I looked at Arsenal's forum there would be some there aswell, even with how well they are doing this season

I totally agree with you. I think it's a part of sport, but also believe that it has been magnified during the information age, partially because we can see their opinions, partially because echo chambers encourage people, and partially because every headline around us is sensationalist and reactionary. Just look at people's youtube headlines talking about football.

It could well be becaue I come from the old school documentary film community where sensationalism was often looked down upon, and telling the story honestly was the most important thing (with a few horrifying counter-examples), but it's just so absured. Some articles I've submitted for online publications completley sensationalised them by changing the titles. this of course often happened traditionally in media, but I've definitely seen a magnification of it to unprecedented levels.

Got to say I had zero enthusiasm for today. It was one of those games where you know what's coming before it happens. We were never going there and overcoming a 2 goal lead. With Brentford in mind I would have been happy if he'd played a 2nd string side tonight.

If that makes me a negative nelly then so fuck [emoji38]

this is something that I didn't consider with Joel. He's relatively new here.

The die was more or less cast when Cherki scored in the first leg.

I’ve supported us through our three really successful periods now and this time is up there with my youthful joy of the Keegan years when I was only 11 when he came back as manager.  No matter what happens in the future in what looks like a key transitional period is ever going to take that away.

But that was pretty grim tonight, after 7 minutes Man City didn’t have to leave second gear and by 45 they were in 1st/neutral.

Just because I’ve had the euphoria of the cup win of last season doesn’t mean that we can’t be a little worried about how our form has plummeted this season and there being no signs of the course being righted.

We lost one of the best strikers in the world last season.  He had that X-factor and more importantly we played to his strengths to help him score as much as possible, with defenders being terrified of him. But the business in replacing him is a significant concern with neither striker looking effective in what is still the system we had set up for him.

That and the fractured performances of all but one of our wingers has blunted us massively.

Sorry to single this out mate but just using it as an unfortunate example (for you) just this sort of thing that I find frustrating tbh. I'm appreciative of the fact that we all have different opinions but when we say things like our form has plummeted it all just seems over the top to me.

I'm sure I heard the other day that we were like 6 or 8 points behind last season. Okay that may be 9 or 11 now. Is 3 or 4 more losses (to wins) really plummeting when the fixtures alternate each season and aren't fixed in terms of difficulty at specific stages or sequences of the season?

Admittedly, I'm a really optimist. I'll be frank - I don't really get the pessimists at all (not saying this to you). I tend to find in life that the optimists know they're optimistic but the pessimists just think they're being real. Just my perception.

But I think that's the issue the optimists generally have (albeit not sure we needed a thread on it - no offence whoever created it ;) ).

Like every time something goes wrong it's a barrage of Howe out and everything and everyone isn't good enough. I think it's the nature of modern (social media) society. Everything is so binary. Is x good or is x bad? Are you a 1 or a 0?

As has been said, I think by @HaydnNUFC the reality is this season is the grey matter that is in between. So when folk use sensationalist language or are being irrationally negative before a ball is even kicked it just (again in my eyes) seems rather forgetful of the great job this squad and coaching staff have done here. In life (again) if folk achieve, or do you proud, you normally return them with faith and (again) for me Eddie Howe deserves far more faith than folk seemingly show him and so do virtually all the squad.

This is probably our lowest moment under Howe on the basis of capability vs performance, but it's nothing catastrophic, and to @Slims point (or at least I am going to use it for my own agenda  ) now is the time to rally behind the club and everyone at it ahead of strong and important fixtures and not in-fight.

Yeah. In the minutes before kick off I had a brief surge of "well you never know," but as soon as the first goal went in it was just like, meh. It's a relief we didn't get absolutely tonked but it's no surprise Man City raced into the lead they did after that first one. Impossible for the lads to keep their heads up knowing they were cooked after seven minutes.

I've always been quite negative in that I don't expect too much, but to be honest I think that's why I'm in the more positive side of the fan base at the minute because I see the fact that we were still in all competitions in February as decent.

I realise it could quickly go out the window in this run if games but I put that down to the restraining rules more than anything else.

If we hadn't played 347 games since December and were struggling in the league I'd be more inclined to whinge about management etc.

Still a bit deflated obviously.

Keep the faith. You come across as a good person and a good supporter.

i know i'm not the target for the thread title, or hope I'm not at least - i generally voice displeasure in infrequent snipes and not regular diatribes - but i will say i have felt suuuuper fuckin pessimistic about this season ever since the isak bullshit in the summer. Granted there've been small upticks but the overall vibe trend has been downward for me, and the mood didn't get better after our lack of movement in Jan  just kinda coasting towards summer and seeing what's up.

Football forums are a pressure release valve, every single football forum has people complaining. People just like to complain annoymously online so they don't bottle up their emotions in real life.

Blue Moon (the biggest city forum) has people complaining as we speak. One of them is complaining about James Trafford because his surname is "Trafford".

I'm enjoying the season personally, give or take. I just want us to score more goals, Howe needs to do some under pressure finishing drills or something, nobody seems to be able to finish a 1 on 1 with the keeper... and don't train them with Ramsdale as the keeper because they'll all score.

I've said this since the beginning of the season. Fans were asking for a centre back, full back or defensive midfielder.  Now I am not saying we don't need these positions filled BUT we are desperate for a goalscorer. We don't score enough goals. Woltemade you can write off as a goalscorer. Wissa could be the "fox in the box". However we need an outright goal finisher. Tonight we had 12 shots with 5 on target. Shearer would have scored those 5 opportunities.
