St James' Park

£40m is a tad steep I reckon, its only a stand extension not an entire full new stand.

Wasn't one of the main problems last time the metro station at SJP? I think if the stadium expansion had an impact on something down there then the cost could well be pretty big.

Something more viable would be just the south west corner being made into seats, instead of that square sided thing with the black and white stripes on. There's boxes there at the moment right? Turn them into seats and you might get a couple of thousand in there.

Original plans were for increase to 60,000+ seats the casino, apartments built into the stand and luxury hotel. This seems to be the way alot of clubs are going in a bid to increase revenue so nothing to say all of this still couldn't happen. Original costs were said to be £300m, not sure how much that would change now but surely revenue would increase hugely which is something the club have been looking to do for a while now.

Sort of. The apartments and hotel would never have been in the stand, they were to be located in various buildings around the stadium, one of them being the former supporters club building across Barrack Road.

It was to be done in 3 stages and the Gallowgate expansion would have been stage 3.

Imagine if they made the Gallowgate a massive single tier stand, a la the Borrusia Dortmund yellow wall. Would be immene

Dortmund's standing room end is the best (most intimidating) stand in Europe.

My hope has always been that the club would try and replicate that, re: stage 3 development.

Intimidating atmosphere (for visiting teams) is there for the taking, if that stage was to go ahead - more so if the team is performing. In the age of these boutique, safet-first, all-seater stadiums (where atmosphere has suffered) just one stand (ala the idea raised) equates to potentially more points & greater goal difference gained. The intimidation factor is uncharted territory for the current generation of footballers (at least in England).

As for cost, taking into account the hostility/intimidation factor. A few more points gained at home, coupled with a greater goal difference, would be a very handy tie-breaker to have in the club's favour -  in a hotly contested race for CL spots etc. Over time it pays for itself.

Well if the people from Qatar buy us they might extend the stadium

To a 90,000 seater in Kingston Park.

Surgeon Hall once wanted to build a super stadium at Lamesley for both NUFC and SAFC to share.

I hope we get massive cushioned seats like at The Emirates. Class for reading The Telegraph at half time.

And during if it gets boring.

Takes the 'flair' out of the game, though. Leave the seats as they are in the 'normal' categories.

Even the worst football match couldn't get as tedious as reading the Torygraph...

Remember the plans to build a new stadium in Leazes Park. So glad they didn't, really like the fact we've essentially played on the same patch of grass for our entire history.

Nah, they dig up and relay the pitch every summer.
