Not saying that this is the point you're making, but a new stadium wouldn't just be about the capacity - it's the entire experience from seeing the building as you're walking towards it to the moment you step outside after full-time.

 

There is so much we'd have to settle for if we stay put and I don't think the conversation around a new stadium would come around again for a long time, whilst SJP continues to creak year after year.

They should build a whole hotel/casino complex type thing within the “new” stadium.. be a licence to print money, or launder etc.

 

Or are we allowed affiliate with gambling organisations but not be the proprietor of one?

Any bubble wrap / bowl design will look shite from both the inside and the outside. 

 

SJP is iconic partly due to the fact that you can see these massive stands from across the city. A 'bubble wrap' stadium wouldn't have that affect. 

 

Has there been an new stadium built with steep, imposing stands? Or are they all these identikit bowls?

I love how San Memès looks externally, but it is a bit bowl-like inside. In person it's quite high-up and you could see it from all over the city but most of the city blocks have tall buildings so you'd only catch it from certain places.

 

How they did it might be how we'd do it (building next to StJ ames') :

I'm not sure what anyone sees in these what I'm now learning are called bubble wrap stadiums. They seem to be popular? I think they will look so dated and embarrassing in 20 years time.

 

I think they psychologically prep people to sit down and shut up, too, atmosphere-wise. "Come on kids, we're off to the mercury blob now".

 

This is going to be imposed on the city for possibly 50 years. It should be future proofed as much as possible in terms of possible uses and aesthetics.

Sorry I absolutely hate the Bernabeu. Looks great inside because it's basically still the same, and the functionality is great in terms of the pitch system, but it's fuck ugly IMO.

I'm still partial to the exterior of The Emirates of all the more modern stadiums. It seems to have a bit more about it than most, though there are still some airport terminal vibes.

The company named in Hopes article did the Anfield redevelopment, was inside the main stand during the summer for a concert and it’s very nice, walked through the new Anfield Road End to get out and that seemed very basic on the inside and dull.

 

Think their main stand does look alright from outside though, but St James is such a hotch potch of materials not sure what would look good.

San Mamés is absolutely class like. Feels really imposing when you're in there, too. They deliberately made it tight and steep to keep the feel of the old one.

Not sure it would. Here we are just 5 days away from one of our biggest home games in years v Arsenal and you can go on the site now and buy a corporate seat if you like. Still 47 seats available in Wings when I checked before.

 

For general seating our demand will be up there with any club. For corporate seating we're miles away. Put simply people up here just don't have the money.
