No doubt the nimbys will now crawl out the woodwork but this will be massive for the city. Edited 17 hours ago by Whitley mag

ponsaelius
No overlap with existing stadium sounds like it will be a lot more like Castle Leazes.

54
The Joel Bland is such a bullshit merchant That said, if we could have a stadium with a roof like that Vegas one, that'd be sick.
ponsaelius
Again I must reiterate my severe dislike for all of these amorphous blob, externally clad stadiums that look like they could just as easily be an airport terminal or train station from the outside, and are largely indistinct from one another. They will age terribly IMO. All football stadiums should have four clearly definable sides.

LFEE
Bad news for ticket prices if only 65K. 10k short than I expected unless they can increase in the future by adding a tier or converting seats to safe standing 3 for 2.
Wallsendmag
Bit underwhelmed with 65k. In reality that's probably only 8/9k more general admission seats than we have now and would already be well oversubscribed for every game this season. Looks like they want to keep the high demand, low supply that they currently have in place. Should really have been 70k.
Slim
Presume they have enough data to know what the capacity should be so not going to worry about it.
ponsaelius
Although I've always been of the opinion it doesn't need to be stupid big I do think it's 5k short capacity wise if that's true. Edited 17 hours ago by ponsaelius

Obviously a different kind of stadium in the middle but having the old Roman style facade is pretty cool.
Wandy
65K is really quite pitiful for such a big development. Not impressed to be honest. And if looks anything like that Vegas one I will be mortified. We need a football stadium, not a consumer bowl.
Wandy
Also, if this is completely on Leazes Park, where exactly does it go? Not convinced that this isn't bullshit to be honest. Mind it will be funny to see Tyneside Eddie's face if the club confirm it to be true.

I think Edwards penned an article yesterday which again claimed it was overlapping with SJP and 69k, clearly somebody’s getting duff info.

Well obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder but IMO there are plenty of old decrepit stadiums that are falling apart but still have character. Grounds that have been improvised and extended ad-hoc over the decades and/or are made from materials that can develop patina gracefully. You can see the weight of history in them, even if they are not works of signature architecture. SJP falls into this category for me, even if it is severely lacking in TLC. When you aim for perfection from the outset and try to design a perfectly moulded shape, then the aging process is much harsher, and the need for maintenance is more acute. This is true for large amounts of mid-20th century architecture in particular.
