Simon Jordans take on it for those who can click the link...

I mean, he’s absolutely right.  The problem is intent - the evidence to date points to PIF doing sweet FA, it’s been predictable since pretty much day one, this is what they do - talk and promise big, nothing materialises, every so often talk again, nothing materialises, and so on and so on until the world forgets they said it in the first place.

This is how it works with massive Saudi infrastructure projects - why would we be any different?

Saudi have an export terminal on the red sea, they're not dependent on the Strait of Hormuz.

Let's be honest here, we were never getting a new stadium even without everything in the middle east blowing up. We are not getting a new training ground either.

I feel like a lot of people on here are still in denial about just how ambitious the Saudis are willing to be with us.

I’ve changed my mind on this one.

I was all for a new stadium. I think in the case of SJP and the 35,000 who trudge through the turnstiles to vent their frustrations every game, familiarity has bred contempt and change would be as good as a rest.

But now I’d rather just have a competent defensive unit like we had in 22/23. That’s my biggest grand ambition for NUFC. Anything else is of minimal importance.

I have said for at least 2 two years this stadium isn't happening. Delay, obfuscate and defer. Without a new stadium what IS the project anymore?

If you’ve been saying it for 2 years you definitely formed that opinion too early.

I’ve been saying it for four and a half years.  They’re absolutely full of shite - it’s the way the govt works over there.  People around the world think they’re all knocking about in yachts with gold toilet seats.

I'm fine with us spending within our means and not buying the league. We have ambition, we have good players and we win games a decent amount. My worst nightmare would be to buy the league and be complicit in the ruination of football. I'd probably stop watching if that happened... so eh, if they're less competent than initially thought? It's music to my ears.

It's a good point, of course. I don't know if losing our soul would be worth it though. The struggle is half the fun.

That ship sailed when PIF bought us tbf. Got a cup win out of it at least.

Agree to the broader point of not just buying the league and the triumph of properly building something over the past 4 years. Shame Yasir, this new CEO and Staveley set expectations that were always unlikely given restrictions and owner pragmatism. Enjoy the ride, but I'm under no illusion we're owned by scum, overpromising scum.

Did a litter pick at leazes park today, sjp not looking great from the park. Defo a bit unlined. The friend of leazes park I spoke too didn’t seem to know about any proposed move. Park was fairly dead for a nice day, don’t think I seen a single dog walker in 90 mins, seems just people cutting through.

Students are away at the moment so town will be way quieter.

I was told, directly from Hopkinson, that we had a record breaking sleeve sponsor and a record breaking training ground sponsor. I’ve no idea if that means record breaking for us or in general, I’d presume us on the sleeve, but we’ve never had a training ground sponsor so £1 would be a record. So 🤷🏼‍♂️.

My take is Hopkinson is no mug, and he’s made some very bold claims about where he wants us to be, so you’d expect to see some pretty big movement in terms of revenue or we don’t stand a chance of achieving what he has set out.

But as ever, talk is cheap and we’ll believe it when we see it.

When did they promise to build a new stadium for the club?
