José Enrique

Crazy how much the club sound like they are flapping over this. Enrique is keeping a dignified silence with the club making all the noises about wanting the move. Sounds more and more like Enrique is happy to hold out another year for a move and fair play to him he's done well for us he's not shouted and screamed to move at any point and he wants his career to progress so wants to move on. Not sure why he's getting called by so many people.

In public, what he's saying or not saying behind closed doors may be a different matter.

He can say what he wants to the chairman and the manager, my point is he isn't doing what alot of players do and coming out in the press and saying stuff or leaking stories. Everything about this story has come from Pardew. He has said he wants CL football and wants to join a club which can give him that. That's fair enough by me.

Wouldn't call it a dignified silence. He could have ended all this ages ago with a simple statement.

What Pardew is saying. He has clearly given some indication that he wants out so why not just tell us?

I'm not sure how saying any of that would have ended anything. We'd still be having this question wondering whether he was going now or next summer. The club are saying alot in a bid to try and get some cash for him. He may want to hang on till next summer when a CL club may want be happier to get him for free (even though free transfers actually cost a small fortune now, according to Pardew)

Him saying he wants to leave would probably have attracted a few buyers.

It seems he's going under the radar a bit this summer which may be his intention. Head down and leave for free next year like you say.

£6m now for a player who wants to leave and has said as much

or

£3m in Jan for the same player who wants to leave

or

Free next season for the same player who wants to leave.

Colo logic - £6m now.

A club like Arsenal could do a lot worse than bidding £6 million for him.

6m for Enrique would be scandalous. The lad is a ballhair away from becoming one of the best left backs in europe.

He's 6 months away from leaving for nowt. Are you just going to pretend that isn't a factor?

15 million was quoted not long ago.......if he goes for less than 8 we have been robbed

Who would buy him for more than 8 million though? He's free in a year's time.

Villa?

Bidding £10m for a winger who's free in a years time.

Depends if more than one club are after him, if you had Arsenal, Liverpool, and a spanish team who wanted him, then would any of them be willing to risk losing out on him by waiting 12 months.

Would a fair valuation method be to think of his value if a club had him under contract for, say, four years and then divide that by four? Maybe use a discount factor to account for the present value of money?

I don't know. Around the £8-10m mark for one season of Jose sounds about right, given:

a) the quality of player he is

b) the cost of replacement/impact on the club he's leaving (us)

c) the stature of the club likely to go in for such a player

Edit: maybe more
