Blimey, Spurs fans seem to get battered wherever they go :/

Just thinking that, seems like every Euro tie its happening. I thought they would have a pretty safe time compared to our lot this week tbh.

Frightening how apparent and real the presence of right-wing extremism in football has become again. This anti-semitic violence is another dimension of racism that hasn't been rooted in European football historically. A direct result of the ignorance towards this issue shown by UEFA, these groups will continue to increase their use of football as a platform for violence and discrimination of minorities.

Fucking sickening what's happend to Spurs fans this season. It's been an ongoing issue in Holland with Ajax for quite a while as well. UEFA not acting with more emphasis on these things is sad more than anything.

Hooliganism on the continent is much more 'political' than over here, with Ultras aligning themselves as either Far Right/Facist/Anti-Communist and Far Left/Communist/Anti-Facist.  As well as the general anti-semitism towards Jews you find on the far-right, amongst facist football hooligans for some reason there's an assumption that all Jews are Communist sympathisers, and so the chance to stick the boot in to a perceived 'Jewish team' gives them the opportunity to cement their militant-political credentials.

Aye. That prejudice stretches back quite far. It's such a confused ideological environment it's laughable. All Jews are supposedly communists because of Marx and what happend in the build up to WW2. They also control the world and killed Jesus.

Don't know if this was reported in England. However, UEFA didn't make any effort to condemn it.

Fans who attended the match told Haaretz of booing throughout the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw. There were also chants of “Palestine, Palestine,” “stinking Jews,” “Buchenwald” and “Heil Benito Mussolini.”

As if Mussolini worshipping facists actually give half a fuck about the plight of Palestinians.  It's like when you get pro-Israel conservative politicians who suddenly are all about gay and women's rights when it's a useful stick to beat all Muslims with.

 It's on par with the chanting of the name of an concentration camp along with Palestine.

Know two families of spuds fans, all Jewish, though not all spuds fans will be.

Disgrace these planned attacks are taking place, politics and religion has no place in football. Root of all evil.

Tottenham (the area) has a very large Jewish population and thus a lot of fans. A few of their owners/people in charge have been Jewish at the very least. Sugar & Levy the obvious ones.

Joe Lewis as well I think. Not that it matters.

Whatever happend to the debate regarding their use of "yid"? I have quite a few friends of jewish descent and some jewish heritage myself. I know a lot of jewish people who aren't fond of the term and fully agreed with those who weren't very amused by Spurs fans "reclaiming it".

This is a good piece explaining the complexity of the problem.

Kick It Out have created an app that lets fans at a match report discrimination that they hear.

The app, also launched today so fans can download it ahead of the new football season, is available to users on iPhone and Android devices. It was developed after a survey, carried out by Populus with over 5,000 fans, determined that more options were required to report discriminatory behaviour. The reporting of these incidents can be done anonymously, in order to protect those who fear they may be singled out if they are seen to be taking action.

Canny idea imo. Just hope people don't abuse it by taking the piss and make it obsolete.

I watched "The Match Revisited" on Sunday morning and it was Man Utd V West Brom from 1979.  The abuse Regis and Cunningham were getting from the crowd was horrendous.  As a kid going to the matches in the 80's it was something I never really noticed as I was only young and watching the game, but christ, watching them back now just makes you cringe, it was shocking.

The only racist remarks I really remember at St James' towards one of our own players was someone calling Franz Carr a useless black bastard (the same guy was cheering with the rest of the crowd when Carr scored less than 30 seconds after that).  I think Carr was only the 5th black player to play for us so it might have just been that we'd never had enough black players prior to that for the racists to complain about, I did know someone whose wife used to call Asprilla that nig nog so there were definitely plenty of ignorant racists supporting us.

Going by many PC types, I'd say the anti-semitism is AT LEAST as bad among the mis-named "socialists" (wonder who THEY'RE trying to impress....) I know - Ive argued on the subject with the pompous hypocrites.

This whole thing seems to have blown up again when it had all but died off. Wonder if it's been the attention and spotlight that has given it a new lease of life ?

You think the Suarez thing may have been fuel on the fire ? The Terry thing, and the Ferdinands making such a big deal of it actually made things worse ?
