yeah I don’t know the answer which is why I’m asking; but it seems many are very focused on us specifically finding someone to beat that specific style of defense when we have more or less been excellent with what we have at our disposal and how we’ve been able to maximize players we’ve had in spite of no transfer activity. So I naturally think 1) yes we need more technical ability, who doesn’t love that but 2) how often do we HAVE to break a team down to win a match? And 3) if we just get better players to more effectively execute plan A, then why truly reinvent the wheel?

Have to say - for a free transfer it wouldn’t be the worst move we’ve ever made. Had his fitness issues but definitely gives us options off the bench.

Antonio 'Antoñito' Cordero - To Sign on 1st July from Malaga (Official)
ponsaelius replied to SUPERTOON's topic in Football
I hate the signing and farming out of players for PSR purposes but unfortunately we basically have to play this game. We know we're going to need to trade players, so we will probably want to be in a position where every summer we can either sell these Minteh type signings or instead move on an existing first team player and slot them in as a replacement. In an ideal world I don't doubt we'd have rather done the latter with Minteh given he was still on an upward trajectory. -
Don't forget their iconic pre-match usage of the 1996 top 40 hit "Ready to Go" by Republica which they named their forum after. I've heard they talk about that in America all the time too.

its not so unique The football teams who famously sing "Wise Men Say" (a reference to the line "Can't Help Falling in Love") include Sunderland, Hull City, and Huddersfield Town. The song was adopted by these teams as a chant, with Sunderland and Hull City particularly known for their long-standing tradition of singing it. The song was a popular anthem among football grounds from as early as the 1960s, including with supporters of Sunderland, Swindon Town, Hull City, Huddersfield Town, Preston North End, Swansea City, Airdrie United and Raith Rovers.

It’d be a nice problem to have, in any case. Too often we weren’t able to change the game from subs or even before that, surprise teams enough with personnel changes in the first xi.

What was a "pivot" called when "park the bus" was doing the rounds? Anchorman? Holding midfielder?

Put a school skirt on it and would like like the infamous DLC pic tbf.

It may be the case that Eddie has wanted him in the past and still does so on that basis I'd happily take him for free. He'll score a few anyway and if he isn't a good fit you know someone in the PL will take him next year for about 15-20m.

id say Isak, Tonali and Bruno are the big 3 and would start every game if fit.

Lock and burn the thread

“We struggle to score against low block teams”. Low blocks are supposed to be tough to attack against, that’s like the whole point.

Joelinton is an auto start if any of Isak, JP, Tonali or Bruno is injured/suspended. Let’s assume they are unavailable 10% of the time, that’s Joelinton automatically starting 40% of games by force. Thats 22 starts in a 55 game season. Not to mention minutes off the bench (Joelinton would get 20-30), tactical starts and genuine rotation games. I can easily see a situation with Joelinton preferred against top sides and away from home. My point is if we sign JP it is with the intention he starts most matches with Isak. Yes I do think it’s the central midfielders JP is likely to take the most starts from. Isak is the crown jewel, not Joelinton, Tonali or Bruno. Isak is the man and he’s going to play loads of minutes. But we’ll have a genuine option when he does his statue routine.

Tino looked better at LB than RB last season, and I think it’s down to the players around him. At RB, he had Murphy ahead of him, who doesn’t really offer much link-up play or movement to support overlaps. But on the left, playing with Gordon or Barnes, he had teammates who cut inside and created space for him to attack. Even Trippier struggled to impact games on the right last season, which shows it’s more about chemistry and whole setup than position.

What misdemeanor have they done now ?, still they'll get a third off for remission.

Didn't make sense for most clubs to sell though, right? Back end of the PSR year. All deals will be done once it reopens again?

We are quite tippy tappy, little triangle-y around the box. Gordon is also good at beating his man or drawing a foul. Maybe a bit more box crashing by our mids, like Sandro for the first against Man U or Chelsea, would help. In that same Man U game, Tino beats his man and overhits his cross, but Murphy reaches it and its Barnes crashing in to finish with Isak on his heels. That kind of multipronged attack gets me all excited! Its on the first Whoscored page, but Isak's 34% of our goals is as high as anyone on the list. Time for the other lads to step up?
