I'm still not sure if Rafa's an absolute genius by getting us into this position with this squad, or if he's got the squad under-performing because of his safety first, percentage play tactics?

Since Jonjo's been playing further forward, and not coming back as often to pick up the ball from the back 5, we've looked really poor, especially at home. Rafa must want him to play further forward where his quality can hurt the opposition but, with the players we've got, we can't get a move started and we resort to punting it long to Gayle, Gouffran (short arses both) or Diame (who is shite in the air) hoping to nick the second ball. Turgid is the word to describe it.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to how inept Perez is at tracking back and defending! Dummett would have his work cut out trying to defend 2 v 1s all game if Perez was on that side of the park. Anyway, not going to happen as Rafa knows how exposed we'd be down that flank with the prancing show pony there. You must have loved it when we were starting Ryan Taylor on the right wing ahead of Ben Arfa. Dat tracking back, the single most important attribute for the left winger in a 4-2-3-1. Perez is no Ben Arfa though, is he? In fact, there is no guarantee that he'd give us any more offensively than Gouff on the left is there? Like I said, never going to happen!

Not going to happen. Perez on the left would leave Dummett frighteningly exposed.

Remind me, why do we need to be looking at keepers?

I don't know why the negativity surrounding Gouffran, as he does graft but he also very rarely gives the ball away. He could do more going forward but his attacking isn't helped by Dummett not overlapping and protecting Dummett defensively.

The only things quick about him are his mouth and his temper!

He'll never look particularly good against a team who sit deep, man. He's not that type of player. Especially not when Gayle isn't there to create space for him. Agree. He's going to be important for the rest of this season.
