Has a cup run for a team in deep relegation trouble ever actually helped them? The media do seem to like to talk about how wins in the cup translate into league form but in recent seasons both Wigan and Birmingham have won trophies and then been relegated. If they progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup too they're going to have a crippling amount of fixtures in a very short space of time. More harm than good etc.
