I think I'm becoming a huge fan of Lovenkrands, if he can keep us his performance against West Brom, I think he can be more important to the team than Obafemi Martins.

I know what you mean, but it might simply have been a gesture of goodwill and he may not have asked for the entire remaining value of his contract to be paid up. At the heat of the moment, his player may think that he was completely in the right, and by going straight to the press and giving an opinion it is a way of aggravating/demoralising a player.
