If he stays fit I won't bet against Shelvey. We are a different side with him starting imo. I'd love to see him and Matty in the middle, likewise Ki. Thats harsh on Hayden who is doing some unsung defensive work the previous two would struggle with. Shelvey with a bit more freedom to break forward would be excellent. He just seems a bit broken body wise this season but that is due to playing through the pain. Time will tell.

Diame, Ki and Shelvey have all been great at times this season and can be major contributors. They arent even in the side at the moment. How many people forgot we have Fernadez. He is better than lascelles and schar imo but is sat in reserve at the moment. The there is Clarke who is coming back soon. Also have a soft spot for muto. Obviously utter pap in full back depth but at three at the back Ritchie and Kennedy can cover well enough. Just keep doing what we are doing picking up points and we will be just fine.

Was torn between the 5-6 and 3-4 but picked the latter. As normal speaks volumes all our efforts were dedicated to shipping a multitude of players out rather than improving the team. 3-4 seems harsh given they spent a lot of Almiron but they have had in Charnleys words over a years worth of interest and time to get this over the line and they still pushed to the end of the window and waited out for a few extra saved pounds (if we didn't just cave) at the expense of him playing against Spurs this weekend. I will give them an out on midfield as the emergence of Longstaff, Hayden returning to form and Ki, Diame and Shelvey imminently returning we look good enough until season end.. still bare minimum and at the expense of not just one employees faith but two with Rafa and Hayden. The LB we got was far from the first option and ultimately we end up two wingers lighter and replacing an outgoing LB. Albeit shit ones. It is all bare minimum as usual and won't be enough to keep Rafa sadly.

Tough on the midfield. Samaris would have been nice but the emergence of Longstaff and Hayden starting to play well has really stopped the need for a short term plaster like Samaris. Ki, Shelvey and Diame should all be back within the next couple of weeks. Would have liked another winger/striker for sure and Manquillo is hardly competition for Yedlin. We still lack a fair bit of quality but Almiron is potentially transformative. 6/10 window mainly high because we never expect to sign anyone let alone break our transfer record on a quality player. The LB is clearly far down our list of of alternatives so that takes a sheen off. If he can contribute I might bump up the score, smacks of Manquillo though.
