Think Carrick is a shoe in tbh and will join coaching staff. Tiote and shelvey will almost certainly be off. Colback we are stuck with and anita, who knows.

He calmed down from the fiery start and emotion got the best of him last week. He is still so young and has a ton of potential, pace is a real issue but his talent in other areas is clear. As a target man he does a lot of great things. Think he would be a huge asset in the championship. Think there is a fantastic player there that Benitez would really get the best out of. All that said, doesn't look like he fits into Benitez formation as first choice. Unless he has a different attitude to setting us up next year shelvey is an expensive luxury that is out of form and likely confidence. Probably have go get rid tbh

Can't get excited until it's confirmed but as big news as staying up would have been. Can't put into to words how much hope this appointment would create. Championship will be a great place to build, especially for the likes of Armstrong, lascelles and Aarons. Really think the players Rafa wants to keep would stay too.

My quick thoughts on what is being reported. - I don't think Ashley would need to be present again if the meeting went well last night and he confirmed his original pledge to just leave all club matters with Charnley. I'd think last night would be enough for Rafa to get the assurances he needs and Ashley to say his peace and hopefully do what he can to persuade Rafa to stay - I fully expect Rafa to be true to his word and take his time and a few days to gather his thoughts and assess his options before fully committing to an answer and returning for talks. - I think the timeline could also be more Rafa mind games though and he absolutely knows his decision already, just wants assurances from Charnley and Ashley, an ironclad contract that he will need the clubs legal team to create and them his personal legal team to then review before they go back to the table and talk. I think he is almost expecting a stay but wants them to know he has offers and rightly will want time to assess options..really a get this done quickly if you want me Ashley and Charnley. - not getting too excited these meetings could be as much as severance as staying. - If he stays I wouldn't be surprised to see a break clause again if we fail to reach the premier league. That said it's in the best interest of the club he commits long term. - think we will have an answer by the end of the week if things go positively with Charnley today. Will be a case of getting the contract drawn up, reviewed by Rafas legal counsel then it's dependent on if amendments are needed as to how much longer it will be drawn out.

While its still the same frustrating result, especially given our plight, players disappearing in games isn't always disinterest imo. Somtimes they are just players looking either out of their depth (Williamson, Colback) or struggling to adapt to the league, I think there is a difference in how I see those types of players than the ones strutting around disinterested and smiling like a goon when we are 3 down like Ameobi used to. While Colback and Willow had shockers over the past year or so and before the latter was sold, I ultimately can't blame those types of players for being here, its our scouts, coaches and management that brought them here and still play them each week. I maybe err too much on the soft side of thinking Wijnaldum was more struggling to adapt to the premier league in addition to the horrific club situation around him. He has also had to play a multitude of different positions. Had the rest of the team played well and we finished mid table I think there would be a lot more hope and patience in keeping him given his goal return and flashes of talent. I still don't think its a good enough excuse given he has shown he can turn it out. He has had some shockers. As it is, I'd be more than happy if he was here next year to give him a chance, I think with a year under his belt and (hopefully) a positive camp and coaching staff around there should be no arguments about adapting and he would flourish. That said I also won't shed a ton of tears if we get good money and he leaves, the latter seems inevitable.

Thought, like many others on the pitch for us, he had a great game today. Very important we find a way to keep him if we can. Building a defence around him and Lascelles is pivitol. Can see one of Saylor or Colo being retained to keep as experience but hopefully we bin them both and just bring someone new in. If Brighton fuck it at home to Sheffield Weds, which the basically already have Dunk will be off and be a good option to compliment Lascelles and Mbemba.

Keeping him has to be our number two priority after securing Rafa. Followed by chancel.

It's such a giant no brained for Ashley, the reward far outweighs the risk. The amount of valuable assets we can keep with Rafa are larger, the fanbase and support will be larger and more unified. In many ways for a man that likes to gamble this is the bet he simply can't afford not to take. The only sticking point is cashing in on players Benitez might want to keep, especially if the offers are good money. That is the case with all clubs though. I do think he will be bricking it given Rafas history with owners though.

Think Toney will make an impact next year.

The outlook changes dependant on who is managing but I agree. The goal return alone will be enough to see us regain the majority of the money we spent buying him. His reputation will still be intact outside our club.

He will have offers from all over. Will talk up champions League and end up somewhere mid table like stoke.

He obviously wants the stays and fancies the project. He isn't the type of guy to say so and fuck with the fans otherwise. It is entirely up to Ashley and Charnley to give him what he wants. If he wanted off he would have kept quiet and been far more coy.

He has stuttered being in and out of the team. I think he has had a bit of an identity crisis position and role wise. Isn't a lone striker, isn't a winger but looks most dangerous cutting in from the flanks. Looked good through the Centre the first season.I think among other things the systems we tried and failed to use just didnt suit him.

Ashley will absolutely want it done asap to save face. Rafa will take his time. He is a master at mind games and manipulations. Given his history with Gillete and hicks, Ashley will be scared as fuck with him being in charge if they aren't on the same page.

Didn't particular play well either tbf. A player that could probably find consistency and form under Rafa. We will never know. If we had to prioritize players to keep he is an easy cash cow for us to use to try and keep others.

Said it at the time. This club needs an inspiring figure leading it to unite the fans, players, club and city. McClaren was never that guy good coach or clearly not. Rafa can get the best out of our players, who have the ability but have been dragged down by a culture spearheaded by Pardew but ultimately permeating from the top. If Rafa wants to stay which seems apparently possible Ashley will have little choice but to walk with his staff if he can't secure him for next year. It's a simple decision between potentially coming back up of potentially going down another division.

It's the result we deserve as fans. Rafa holds all the cards now, shame Ashley owns the casino. He is the most important signing we can make and it would have been hard for the coldest of personalities not to be touched by the atmosphere and affection showed today.
