  1. The only downside to his central attacking role is that he likes to sit back and dictate play when someone in that role should be busting a gut to get into the box. This could however be less of a problem when Anita and Cabaye are back though who are capable of dictating play.
  2. The logical answer - create utter turmoil off the pitch to spur on the slump on the pitch. It worked well last time. The one sure fire way to pull us into the relegation zone.
  3. Marveaux is in exactly the same position as Hatem last year. He needs to add more effort into his defensive side and helping the rest of the team out. Complete quality if/when he does. We have seen glimpses of his improved workrate already (first half against Manure) Jonas desperately needs a spell out of the team to: a) re-charge his year long empty batteries. b) re-assess and hopefully reinvent himself. c) let kid Marvel keep his earnt place. I honestly think Marveaux should stick in the center behind the striker, with Obertan out wide left. He looked cracking out there in Europe and proved it again today.
  4. We've looked all over the place at the back for a month. Played and looked so much better with the same players last season. I blame the fact we don't have any former defenders for coaches.. wait..
  5. Replace Bigi/Tiote with Anita and we are looking better. No coincidence our play has looked better with him in the side. Obertan too, to a lesser extent! Pity that along with Bigi they will be the first three names to make way when Anita and Guti, Ben Arfa are back. Cabaye Anita Ben Arfa Marv Remy Ba/Cisse
  6. Thats why I am not yet panicking over relegation talk. Sure we would be silly to ignore our position but we have played some of the best football in over a year in the past four games. Shame it has coincided with our worst defensively. If we continue to attack and play like we have we will be fine. Defense needs a coach raping to pair up with the one they took today. Without at new RB and CB we will struggle to get too much higher in the league.
  7. Woah, woah, woah. Did he say that? No panic that was previous to the past two games..actually panic it makes no difference.
  8. Should certainly be in the U21 set up, surprised this hasn't already happened. His passing decisions are a bit wayward but overall a really quality player in the making.
  9. So he has gone from barely average defender/Awful attacker to barely average attacker/awful defender. Impressive work coaching team.
  10. we were just a mess in the middle of the pitch after the subs, no forma.... just no anything depressing This we were all over the place. Easy to pick apart when no player had a clue where to play or who to mark.
  11. Great player. Hope he stays past January.
  12. Our defense has gone from being reasonably solid to worst than boumsong and bramble. Most pathetic attempt by our defensive players I have ever witnessed. Half our team literally stopped trying when they scored the 4th. Disgusting performance.
  13. at least the players care as much as I do right now. No wait thats all wrong...
  14. Out best attacking performances have happend with him playing in midfield. Shame they have coincided with weak defensive ones.
  15. While I don't agree that Guti should start ahead of marveaux, the latter can certainly improve his workrate. There is no excuse to be a pedestrian of ameobi proportions when not on the ball. The problem with marveaux playing central is that we need him to attacking constantly through the centre, while he prefers to sit back and dictate a pass. Until we sign a proper box to box attacking central mid to replace Nolan then we have square pegs in round holes, missing a central attacking dimension. Hoping to see marveaux really cement himself in the line up now Guti is out.
  16. Another tidy performance. Worked hard in the first half to defend. Shocking and frustrating lack of effort to track back in the second when he was moved central. If he can improve this part of his game, along with adding some bust a gut runs into the box (which we are missing from midfield) I think Pards will finally have no option but to start him. Class is there when he turns it on.

    Alan Pardew

We played exceptionally well today. Our marking and tracking of opposition players is woeful though. We are great at blocking and closing down players on the ball but don't seem to understand the other two important parts of defending. Some really great passing and attacking football today though. Despite being berated Simpson played some fantastic crosses (also blew some simpler chances). I hope we are finally finding some attacking/passing consistency. Losing Anita will be a big blow. Negative marks for taking Cisse off. Fancied him to get a second, he does need resting though worked like a horse all game.
  18. If we continue playing as we did against both Manchester teams we will be good. Desperately need 3/4 new faces though. Fair play to obertan today.
  19. Sadly predictable. Guess we will be in the Market for a central midfielder after all. Hope Anita has a speedy recovery, but fear the worst on that one.
  20. Harsh. Perch passes quite well to the point of being underrated imo. Did have one or two bad ones today as mention though.
  21. Agree, but he is on the bench because he is a pedestrian at the best of times. Was the same at points in the Bordeaux game we were attacking down the left wing, approaching the box and he was walking from the halfway line when he should have been busting a gut to get into the box. He was even worse today, not tracking back and watching the Man City players run past him to out number our defenders. Granted he looks like a deeper set playmaker when playing in the middle but he has to work a lot harder for the team imo. If he did he would be as valuable as Ben Arfa. He clearly has the talent, calm on the ball and eye for a killer pass. We need players who are capable up front and Marveaux is more than capable. We started with 4 defensive midfielders at home today and that is a disgrace. Yet we looked the most dangerous we have looked all season. Up until today I would have agreed. We are clearly capable when organized and motivated. Jonas needs replacing certainly but until Marveaux changes his game to involve helping out without the ball then he isn't the answer. I would still be tempted to give it a go mind. Guti is done.
