tmonkey and johnnypd I don't think it was ever Beckham's plan or desire to play in the middle. That was asked of/forced on him by England and Real Madrid. As a winger he is/was one of the best English ones ever - better as a winger than any of the other options in the middle. I never thought Beckham was a good captain for England and playing a creative central role is not his strength. He also has an amazing workrate (I don't know how people could question this).

Beasely has done alright for the US recently - should play on teh wing as he is still fast. I have nothing positive to say about Bocanegra... the US have many players more capable than him but its like Nicky Butt with the whole "He's been there and done that and is a veteran" bullshit. In my view Bocangra has never been a good player but brought some agression to Fulham when they were becoming a bit limp. Like Steven Carr, Bocanegra cheats and plays dangerously to make up for his lack of skill and pace. He is a liability.

It's entirely fair, the players have achieved the same as the manager, why are double standards fair? But they haven't. Butt - not up to it even in the Championship. Most everyone agrees (including Hughton lately and Butt is not offered a new contract) Hughton - does well in the Championship Not the same.

That is not really a fair comparison. There is pretty clear consensus that Butt is not up to it and that would include Hughton. Smith was doing well early on but has faded ... and like above, even Hughton knows this.
