  1. They're called Bayer Leverkusen by the way... nothing to do with "Bayern" (bavaria) I know only one letter, but still But I think more of Schalke. Came close to win the title few years back, great fans as well. And maybe even Hamburg, also coming close to win the title in recent years and buying "great" players like Van der Vaart and now even past-players like RvN. So they are also a bit similar to us imo. Yeah Bayer Aspirin... sorry about the misspelling. In 2002 when the threw away the league title, the league Cup and the CL final in a single week I thought: "One of us, one of us..."
  2. I'd have to say no on that one. Rome is a two team town (Roma and Lazio) and like most Italian cities the division is along political lines with Lazio being the right wing team (hence the Nazi saluting and the displaying of the swastika during games... classy). Rome is also the capitol so the demographic compaison is way off for that one.
  3. Maybe as far as winning anything, but the've never even been close (so no tragic failure... just failure) - also the Cubs are the affluent and very white northern-suburban demographic of Chicago which is also a two team town... the demographics kill the compason for me. That said I can't think of any other baseball team that would be a better fit... but I've never been a fan. how about the pittsburgh pirates, based on the demographic and attitude of the pittsburgh teams ? Like I said I've never been a fan, but I think the Pirates have won the title recently... which would make them a bad comparison. I know less about Pittsburgh demographically then Chicago (I've never been to P-town) but I know this little factoid about the Pirates: Fidel Castro was a prospect and the scouts argued about offering him a contract after he did some practices. Imagine what things would be like if he played professional Baseball in the US?

  5. Bayern Leverkusen A.k.a. Neverkusen
  6. I see us losing tonight as well. Cardiff are up for it and Chops isn't playing for the makems so is unlikely to pull anymore of his double agent heroics.
  7. Thanks for posting that KaKa - I had no idea. That article explains a huge amount. He called Harkes "Captain for Life" only a couple weeks before the debacle that was WC '98 then drops him, team spirit goes out the door and makes puzzling selections.
  8. HKMag - we just signed Routledge - very similar to Ambrose so very unlikely. Decent player though.
  9. Happens all the time to both red and blue. Wor Drunken Ferguson was done twice... though in more farcical circumstances (he beat the shite out of the burglars in both cases - he did sustain injury to his knuckles though).
  10. I really liked him before he won the CL with Porto - Once he knocked ManU out of the compo my affections were guaranteed.
  11. Keegan had no long term vision. He thought season to season. Cole would not head a ball to save his life. KK was told to sell some players before he could start spending again. AC recorded a rap song and thought he was all that and a side of chips... and that was that. KK was right incidentally. Cole won stuff with ManU but was not as good as he was when he played for us.
  12. I have no love for Spurs but I hope they soundly beat Liverpool. 4-0 would be good.
  13. Debt higher than club value could also apply to many other clubs including Chelsea and Man U.
  14. Money laundering scam... (insert Italian business stereoype here).
  15. Nolan was bad last season and has only been good for the last 4 months of the 00s in a lower division - hardly comparable. And as Hughsey points out, Butt does not count. I missed Emre... he may have been better than Dyer. I'll have to think on that.
  16. Anyone else think that 115k quid fine for WHam is getting off light? I do. What would our fine be if this happened at SJP? I would guess at least half a million. For reference: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=725829&sec=england&cc=5901
  17. Solano and Robert player on the wing, I presume James means best attack midfielder we have had that played through the middle. Who else has been better than Dyer in that position in the previous 10 years? Yeah, that's the way I read it as well - James was exempting our wingers and wide players from comparison. Its a bit self fulfilling though since Dyer was really the only player to get a good run in the 00s in that position. SBR had some slavish notion to play Dyer there at every opportunity no matter how poorly he played it, so its difficult to compare him to anyone else. The only players that got runs in the center midfield could be classified at DCMs (especially when partnered with Dyer): Acuna, Lee, Speed (yes he played DCM when partnered with Dyer in the middle), Butt, and Parker. As for playing an attacking role in teh middle... well who do you compare him to? He was better than Bowyer... Owen did well in that spot but only had a couple of tries so probably doesn't count... anyone else?
  18. Maybe its part of some back to basics campaign... FA Chairman/Representative: "Right Lads, this World Cup you lot are ALL GOING TO KNOW THE WORDS TO GOD SAVE THE QUEEN! Humming will no longer be permitted!! So let's start with the first verse..."
  19. Oh and here is the second best song for you Sassanachs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T1pXsJp_go
  20. That has to be the unoffical entry for this year - with that video as well. Its old. I think its a couple of WCs ago.
  21. Scotland has had one at least twice ('78 and '86). To my knowledge the USA has never had one... but then its a strictly second tier sport overhere anyway.
  22. Your best song is easily this one: http://www.weebls-stuff.com/songs/footy/ Its best listened to for at least one hour.
  23. Looking forward to finding out what his mystery condition was that caused all of these injuries. Dyer wouldn't say, Souness said it wasn't his place to reveal and as far as I know we never had any good rumours on it. My guess: Sickle Cell Anemia.
