  1. Looking forward to finding out what his mystery condition was that caused all of these injuries. Dyer wouldn't say, Souness said it wasn't his place to reveal and as far as I know we never had any good rumours on it. My guess: Sickle Cell Anemia.
  2. I hope they die a horrible and painful death... along with liverpool. Not that I'm bitter or anything...
  3. There have been soem good points made in this thread and interesting contributions on the usual criticisms however... Carr was absolute crap and it had little to do with injuries. Running up the field during an attack an then watching as the opposition makes a counter has little if nothing to do with being injured. His positioning was poor at any level. He constantly put Bramble and Boumsong under pressure by inviting 3-2 attacks countless times because he would not track back ... or he would stay out wide letting his mark inside and then make accusatory gestures or faces to the central defenders WHEN IT WAS HIS FAULT. While here he had a poor attitude, was overweight and overpaid. Since leaving us he has lost weight, realised he should actually work for a living and retired (at least once) from internationals making him slightly less crap... but still crap.
  4. I wish I had the optimism of Chez and BT, but like most I have given up on Barton and would like him out.
  5. I guess I was confused. Standard operating procedure.
  6. It only seemed a friendly because we won but it was our season opener against Bolton - it was as a sub for the last 10 minutes or so. It was mint seeing "HARPER 12" on an outfield kit.
  7. I am going to have to disagree with you on this point. Most players may think they would like to play in a place like SJP in concept, but the reality is much different. I think most professional players are incapable of playing their best at SJP. Most players would like to think they can handle the pressure, but playing at SJP is akin to playing internationally in many countries (including the US) and they just can't handle it. Despite comparisons with the 80s (being louder/better/more aggro) the crowd is a tremendous amount of pressure and many of the players rightly or wrongly even come to resent it. I think this has become even more of a problem as players wages have skyrocketed and their lives are becoming more and more isolated from the supporters and reality. Its not all bad though. Some players do very well in this environment (especially when they become cult favourites like Nobby, Ranger, etc). In Zoggy case I think this was only a small factor though, he didn't get on with many of the players and insitutionally we're a shambles.
  8. TWENTYONE F*CKING MINUTES is all Dyer lasted before being injured again. He needs to retire like Ashton. I remember reading an article last year about how Dyer was hoping to fully recover from injury and start playing again by midyear and while I was shaking my head I thought to myself "That's funny it says a West Ham United player..." and then I realised he did sign for West Ham ... and he spent so much time injured I had forgetten he had left.
  9. I am all for adding St. Mirren as long as they start in League One or Two - I have mixed (but mainly negative) feelings about any other Glasgow team. Because the Old FIrm leaving would spell doom for the SPL we should allow any of the other teams in Scotland to come down and join if they wanted.
  10. My eyes... they bleed form looking at that BBS. While reading that I thought I just went back in time to the early 90s.
  11. I mentioned it after you suggested a MLS loan earlier, havent seen him play for a while though, looked very good the times i saw him last season Sorry I missed it - this thread has been.... difficult to read at times.
  12. Schelotto is old, but any MLS signings would be short term loans only, so I was looking at quick fixes. These two could play on the right wing or creative attacking-mid. Kljestan is a great suggestion... with the added benefits: he is young and hasn't been severly beaten by local lads on the piss.... as far as I know.
  13. So Landon Donovan is going to Everton on loan got me thinking... Two MLS players that would improve our team we could get on a free loan for at least 3 months: Stuart Holden (midfielder/winger) - plays for Houston Dynamo, needs fitness for US WC team Guillermo Barros Schelotto (attacking midfielder/winger) - plays for Columbus Crew formerly of Boca Juniors
  14. This "Landon Donovan being loaned to Everton" got me thinking.... why not get Stuart Holden on loan in January? He played right midfield (for the Houston Dynamo), he's creative, works hard and was probably one of the brightest stars of the MLS this past season (and he needs to maintain fitness for the WC - despite Scottish birth he is a part of Team America). He would be very cheap and would not cost a transfer fee. Anyone agree or disagree?
  15. Hmmmm... undecided if I want Cardiff to just draw or win outright today. I don't think they'll be as big a threat as WBA and a win could sap some confidence off the Baggies. Does anyone have any strong feelings on this?
  16. This is the BEST draw possible for Team America. Americans who are interested in footie really only know the Premiership and its popularity (especially ratings) have been consistantly on the rise overhere - now we can even watch the Championship on the telly FFS. And it overall one of the weakest groups offering a good chance of advancement. The whole Beckham thing - I can hear it now: "LA Galaxy teammates facing eachother in the ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN!" </wrestler announcer voice> The spirit of 1950 will be brought up ad nauseum. Overall a good thing for American soccer. Also I'd love the US to face Germany in the next round. The US should have eliminated them back in 2002 but they cheated France style. So many good games that will coming out of that draw. Especially lloking forward to Nigeria kicking the crap out of a shell shocked Argentina and Maradona then going into some bizarre tirade against "dark people." Also looking forward to Portugal v Brazil (like everyone else).
  17. Okay I admit it, I fell for your sly trick and thought that you were serious for a moment.
  18. I am also feeling the love, but let's be honest he has been a mere shadow of himself since his last season and a half here and has never recaptured his old form since leaving... even in lesser leagues (Greece and MLS). I would rather just keep the old memories of Boro and Arsenal away in the Fall of 2001 and not have him come back ... except possibly as a halftime hero.
  19. ... says the lad with makems in his avatar. (that's in refernce to MPA not OM) Harper is above average for the Premiership, nevermind the Championship. Within that subset, if you take out all of the foreigners, Harper is one of the best English keepers. He makes mistakes, but I would rather have him than Calamity or any of the other capped 'keepers out there.
  20. Why is this not on the television? ... oh right we're playing Watford. (that was for you GG)
  21. Wasted 5 minutes trying to spell solksjaer and van nistelrooy properly - 52. Terrible. Also shocked how many of them played for us and we still suck.
  22. I fully expect to lose this game. We've still yet to be convincing and Swansea will be full of confidence. Butt not playing is great news. I'd be happy with a draw.
  23. Torres holds the key to getting rid of Benitez. Sell Torres for silly money (to anyone) over the manager's objections Benitez quits. A win-win for the owners who are currently drowing in debt and are desperate fro a change in leadership but can't afford it.
  24. Gateshead are losing and the Cumbrians have thrown away a 3 goal lead against MK Franchise...
