I'm happy with the first choice back 4 just need a few back up players, we have had Beye and Enrique injured this season with nobody not even a reserve player ready tp step up. Would have Kadar been an option if he didn't get injured I don't know. The midfield is gash, for all of Guttierez' hard work and endevour there is not much end product but I think he is worth sticking with, everyone else bar Guthrie and Barton in midfield need to be shot. I think we are going to need a lot of work upfront, Ameobi and Carroll are not good enough IMO, Viduka and Owen going we are left with Smith and Oba, I count Smith as a forward as I see him as cover, there are enough players we have to bring in as it is. Oba when fit is our best hope, I know he can be frustrating at times, he did miss a decent oppourtunity yesterday but I couldn't see anyone else getting in position to miss.
-
With the disallowed goal I can fully understand why that would have been dissallowed but if Oba did that in his own penalty area and cleared the ball away do you think a pen would have been given, I think not, so on that basis the goal should have stood. Where are the straws gone lads I am running out..

I am kinda knocking my own point now with all this gears stuff but I am not so sure how much Spurs could have lifted it had we equalised. The crowd had gone flat only lifted when Defoe came on. Either way I think we were shite for most of the game I am not positive for the rest of the season. Not that I like agreeing with Andy Gray but he said people are on about us winning our 3 remaining home games when we have only won 4 home all season..
-
Maybe Guthrie is lacking a bit of match fitness but in hindsight he surely must have more fitness that Butt and Nolan. Their fitness levels are a disgrace to proffessional footballers, Viduka looked sharper than both of them, considering he's a slow fully fit let alone the condition he is in today. Nolan even more embarrasing than Butt, Nolan looked like a player who is playing the last season of his career. I think if Barton and Guthrie had been fit most of the season it could have made a massive difference. The lack of legs in the middle has been our biggest problem all season IMO.
-
It's good to be positive in this situation but the bit in bold has to be a piss take! Spurs never got out of 2nd gear to make us look like a non league side. Thats what I mean, Spurs did fuck all they were there for the taking IMO. Martins and Viduka showed this. The fact that Spurs didn't move out of 2nd gear kinda helps the point I was trying to make.
-
Not that it would change that much right now but Beye should be Captain, he was shouting all game and looking right pissed off when things weren't going our way or if the ref made a shit decision. All I seen from Owen was him through his hands up in the air all the time and get pushed off the ball like he was a little boy. The Spuds were there for the taking in the 2nd half Martins and Viduka showed that, just a pity we have missed them for most of the season.
-
Just goes to show how inept Butt and Nolan were today that Smith looked an improvement on them both. Guthrie must start next game doubt it though.
-
Even my wife noticed how shite Nicky Butt was, she actually asked why is that guy passing the ball to the other team. I told her that he was only doing what others in our team was doing. Unbelieveable, to think alot of these players are internationals yet they can't run or pass. Embarrasing.

Oh! They will be there saying we'll win the title next season. We needed something to lift us, he may not be some peoples 1st choice as manager but I doubt any other appointment would have lifted the mood around the club as this one will.
-
I'll be surprised if Owen is not captain.
-
I don't normally mind Darren Lewis but that was some shit he spouted. At least get facts right. Colo not holding a regular place, he has probably made the most appearances in our back 4 this season, and Jonas has been far from a bitter dissapointment.
-
I can't believe some people would see the club they love relegated just because the manager is shite. As most have said on here releagtion needs to be avoided at all cost. Keeping hold of Kinnear is not one of my wish but I'd rather see him at the helm rather than play in the Championship next season. Crazy...
-
As bad a tackle as it was I really don't think Nolan was out to "do" him, but what he was thinking I do not know. Decent gesture by him to apologise after. Gutted as Everton were there for the taking. Shit happens to us at the moment, if Aniechebe kept perfect control of that there would not have been a problem.

As much as I want to see sin bins this is also true. Terry's behaviour is a good reason why he shouldn't be England captain, then again they haven't got much to choose from the other options have been banned for drug connected reasons and the other could be found guilty of GBH. England should have a good wholesome captain just like Wales
-
It would be difficult to implement for tackles and such but it could be a massive deterrant for dissent. The sin bin would clean people like John Terry up fairly quickly. Or it can be used for persistant time wasting. On another point; The 10 yard rule was good apart from the attacking team should have the choice of a further 10 yards or stay where you are that way a free kick taker like Beckham who is probably in his comfort zone and 25-20 yards out doesn't get penalised by HAVING to move forward.
-
Sin bin is the future IMO. Especially for dissent, next time John Terry has a hissy fit put the fucker on the bench that will learn him... I think you would get loads at the start of the season and then players will learn, if they want refs to have respect this is the quickest albeit artificial way to do it. PS Cattermole is a cunt

The 4-3 loss or that game against Man Utd when we battered them and lost 1-0. I think the Liverpool loss may have been more of a pivotal result because had we won or drawn I really think there would have been that bit more self belief. It hurts thinking about those two games.
-
I am a glory grabber, not the kind of one that supports Man Utd because my loacl team are shit, I am the kind thats mad and chooses Newcastle instead. Stayed with them though even during the shite that we are going through now I once was called a glory grabber on here then someone pointed out I was a supporter during the Gullit torture, so I was given the okay Still I admit that I should be supporting my local team throught thick and thin, there was only one school mate of mine who did the rest were Man Utd/Liverpool etc supporters with stories that their old man was from Manchester, or my uncle had trials with Liverpool blah blah blah. Its amazing how many of those same mates are all of sudden "Swansea till I die" I must admit I have taken a lot more interest in the Swans since last season, mainly because my boss has got 4 seats down the Liberty and I have had chance to see alot of the games, when I say alot its alot for me compared to my Vetch record which probably doesn't stretch 10 games. I am not going to challenge you on the Martinez thing I just seemed to remember the people I spoke with were fed up with him as a player towards the end.
-
Well I can account for being a Newcastle fan from Swansea, there weren't many of us in school but when you think back when we won promotion to the Premiership , all the bigger clubs had so much of an established support in Swansea, there are still masses of Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Everton and I hate to say it Spurs fans but Newcastle have a decent following. Martinez is a hero on a KK kind of level, especially after being club captain, though I do remember him taking a bit of stick towards the end of his playing career with Swansea it was kind of like flogging a dead horse (think Nicky Butt) but Martinez was much better liked than Butt so that helped him. The place is buzzing with the potential FA Cup 1/4 final against Man Utd.

From what I know which is very little, is that once fully recovered after a triple by-pass he would be in far better shape than when he was fully recovered from his heart attack all those years back. So in theory once fully recovered he will be in better condition to manage than he has been since his heart attack. However, I can't remember how long it takes to fully recover. My step dad had a triple by-pass years back when I was a little un - so apart from the tubes sticking out like Mick said and strangley him telling me he can't do the hoovering (not that he did beforehand) I can't remember that much from that time.
-
IMO he wouldn't leave Swansea now anyway, why would he actually. Things are going really well for him at the moment and there is no guarentee that Newcastle won't be playing in the same division as Swansea next season. If we go for him I would hope it would be early in the close season, enough time so he can relax on his hols and then come back refreshed for the roller coaster ride of his life.
-
Oh I have seen the style a few times this season. I live in "Swansworld" and I didn't know that fact. I think Fulham is a winable game, the only thing if he continues to have success in the Cup he is only going to attract more Premiership teams. I am very surprised that he hasn't been linked with the Pompey job especially after whooping them on their own patch. Swansea have done excellently recently especially good given the fact that arguably the best player Bodde is out for the rest of the season and for the past couple of games Darren Pratley has been out as well. All this just makes Swansea and Martinez run all the more impressive.
-
No I totally argree Swansea is a mid - size club in the Championship but because of their recent success the expectations have risen, even so not to the level of Newcastle. Martinez comes accross as a guy that doesn't get phased easily. He has never been pressured into doing anything and seems quite single minded to an extent. I don't know how true this is but he is supposed to have excellent contacts in Spain, they have allowed him to sign some really good players for relatively small fees and bring in some excellent loan signings. The Premiership has changed since Wenger came in, for starters there is a lot more money banded around than back then. I am not sure if the Arsenal board would have had as much patience with him in today's climate, when you consider Chelsea and the way they have lost patience with Mourinho, Grant and Scolari. No matter how good Martinez is I don't think he would ever be given the time or the patience that that Wenger or Alex Ferguson had from their respective boards.
-
The fact he has two years left on his current contract means there is nothing to see here yet. If he has turned down the offer fine, see if he improves over the rest of the season and consider a new contract offer further down the line.
-
Some of your concerns would be mine as well. For the size of club that it is, Swansea do have quite hugh expectations, the was some twitchyness during the 8 match drawing sequence and the piss poor display v Watford in the League Cup drew some criticism, but the expectation levels are not near Newcastles. Most reasonable Swans fans would be happy with consolidation this season and a playoff push next season, so its a bonus that Swansea has done so well this season. There will be some big time charlies who have been there done that and think they are above Martinez but this did not seem to be a problem for Wenger at Arsenal he was a total unknown at the time and look at his success. As all appointments are it would be risky but IMO a risk worth taking.
