Wullie, I think that this year we should concentrate on the league only. The reasons being that we have a squad that with one or two injuries we would be much weakened, I also think that we have absolutely no chance of winning it so why waste time and resources on something that is way out of our grasp. Heart agrees with you but head doesn't... I thought Ranger had a great game last night, Lua Lua only played well in the second half thought he was invisible in first. Shola was lamentable (as per...). Kadar was the pick of the defence for me. One thing that I picked up on was the passing from defence to midfield; the only ones capable of bringing the ball out under pressure were Raylor, Ranger and Loven, the youngsters still don't have that composure to slot passes through minute spaces whilst under pressure... Good result and keep the youngsters getting experience through this cup, we may need them at some point...

I agree 100% with wullie, our home form is where we have to pick up a lot of points, this is where we should looke to beat any team out of the top six tbf...we should still be difficult to beat and our confidence at home should be the same as last season. My preferred team today would be: -------------------Krul--------------- perch (taylor if fit)-willy---colo---Enrique Routledge---Guthrie---Barton---Jonas --------------Nolan------------------ -----------------Carrol-------- Before anyone moans about Nolan, what else can we do? Loven is too lightweight, Ranger and Vuckic can't have that responsibiulity lumped on them without some "real" experience (championship loan...). At least Nolan will gee the team up and perhaps join in some second phase, he ain't that bad to be fair...
-
Jonas tried to get going but he looked a bit rusty to me, give him a couple of games and he will be back. Also Enrique didn't help out as much as usual but you can't blame him when he has to stay deeper to stop the possible counter from the red barstewards!!!

hARPER WAS POOR LAST NIGHT. NO DOUBTS ABOUT THAT. I think Krul is much more agile, Harper seems to have slowed a couple of yards, the third was laughable, that dive was pish poor!
-
At home we need to give Carrol some help up front, i like the idea somebody mentioned about routledge as a second pacy striker, but then who goes into right midfield? I would go with this team based on last nights performance against Manu: ---------------------Krul (for Nº1)--------------- Perch-----Willy------Colo---------------Enique Routledge------Barton----Nolan----Jonas --------------Lovenkrands-------------------- ----------------------Carroll------------- Or even Vuckic (Ranger) up front? Xisco is teargas, Shola is a joke....

I think we all expected that result or something similar and I don't think it will ruin our season in any way. Man u passed the ball around through one-touch football which at times was totally mesmerising, not many teams could have played well against them last night... Paul Scholes, the ginger cnut that everyone loves to hate, I'd sign him in a minute, this football malarky is sooo easy! We deffo need a striker or Nº10 to help out Carrol or we will suffer horribly. Barton looked a yard or so off the pace and that quick yellow dampened him totally, hopefully he will get better because last night was poor, his partner Smith did what he does best; put 100% effort in but without much inroads into the Manu midfield and it would be nice if he made a forward pass every now and again... Either Perch livens up or you have to stick him on the bench, praying that Taylor comes back quicker than expected and I reckon we could have a decent back four if he slots in at right back??? Nolan was cack last night, don't know if it was the position or just that he's a lumbering lazy player but... Harper, don't know if it's only me but he was sooo slow to get near Gigg's goal, I am a bit worried about him, seems like the reflexes are going....Krul for Nº1!!!! The positives to take from our performance: -Andy Carrol, what a shift he put in last night, shame about that first header... but it will come, I hope. Defense, midfield attack, what didn't he do last night? A shame That nolan is so immobile that Carrol was the "sole" striker. This also made Manu's job much easier as they only had to keep their 2 centre backs to watch him, their full backs ran riot and had freedom of the pitch. -Williamson, Colo & Enrique, thought they all played well last night and Williamson was my pick of the three, honestly think that he will grow and grow in the prem, wasn't fazed by anything and looked at home. -Routledge, against lesser opposition he will have a field day but he was playing against the prem's best left back to be fair... Looks tricky and pacy. I think we will do much better against Villa, my only real worry at the moment is our man Perch, he will be pinpointed by other teams as a weakness and I hope he gets confidence. Should have been sent off last night for the foul when through on goal, he did much the same against PSV when I watched him then, panicks too much... He will get better (optomism taking over)!!!
-
Wish I could, will be the lone supporter watching it with the Spanish locals... Will scare the shit out of them if we score though!!!
-
Carrol & Lovenkrnads lead us to a scrappy 2-1 Victory!!!! Can't wait!!!
-
We desperately need to sign another striker before the end of August, if we don't i can't see us scoring the goals needed to keep us up... I would love Carrol to push on and proive me wrong tho'. Ben Arfa looks like our best bet and he does look like (youtubed) the sort of creative player who could change games, just not sure if this guy will come in and affect our "spirit" in some detrimental way.

Deffo need a striker cum attacking midfielder, left back cover and another right winger/midfielder...
