Aye, bigged myself up with the Stuart pearce bit, really more "Bramble-esque"" to be honest...

I play in a "brit" side against the more technically gifted Spanish sides, we usually edge a win or draw down to hard running and powerful defending and a centre forward who scores for fun.... Phycological advantage really after the first few tackles, they are far more wary from then on and we do try to intimidate, if we were to play a passing flowing game we wouldn't get anywhere. Now and again we play an african side and they are a good match for us!! Same type of play and attitude to the game. P.S. Imagine stuart pearce type defender (lot less skill of course) and that's what I do... Fair dues, they don't normally complain too much but they are a lot more wary after a couple of tackles.

I also think there must be "other" reasons because even though I think he's slow he has to be better than zoggy, carr and company in that role?

He's quite fast when he gets up to speed but his initial acceleration is abysmal!

i HAVE ALSO STATED BEFORE THAT FROM WHAT i'VE SEEN OF HIM (on the telly that is) he has looked qwuite average and very slow... I know it's not the same as being at the game but he certainly isn't the defender we thought he was going to be.

How much does a top class defence cost? 40 million quite easily... How much do 2 excellent midfielders cost? 20 million... Another striker with a bit of hunger (not Viduka's hunger!!)? 20 million 80 MILLION TO GET US ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE WE WANT/DESERVE TO BE!!!

I think he was sensible and just didn't risk putting in the african players after they had just returned from a different climate, probably knackered and jet lagged... Saving them for the man utd home game so that they can rip the hearts out of those red barstewards and eat them before their very own eyes... Carr can't play no matter what... Ronaldo will just swap sides to pinpoint our knome like weakness!! Has to be beye and enrique, let enrique give him a kicking every time he comes near. I would go for Beye and Cacapa in central defence and bring taylor on if one of them has a horrible game. If you play football you'll know what I'm talking about: You are drained of energy and you are drained of focus. It is extremely dificult to maintain a standard of play in the second half if your fitness isn't right, you are late to tackles, your passes lack the right energy, confidence drains and everything seems a struggle. FITNESS IS HUGELY IMPORTANT (see Man Utd for their fitness and how they poach goals/games in the second half).

Geremi COULD be played at right back or defensive centre midfield: Butt is better in my opinion. Geremi SHOULDN'T be played at right midfield ' cos he's been shiite there since day one (excludes preseason).

Yes, I also think that Beye is a better right back than geremi, BUT, I think that Enrique isn't ready to play left back for us, needs time when we need instant results. Just think we couyld be a bit more solid on both sides with Geremi on the right and beye on the left, if he's capable of playing there of course...

"3 failed crosses" ... OUT OF 30!!! (only joking) He is far better in this position than in midfield. Is better than Carr and our left back slot is our weak spot, put in Beye and cover the right with geremi.

Has anyone else watched Cameroon play and be impressed by Geremi on the right hand side of defence... He really is far better in this position than in midfield, hardly put a foot wrong and made so many great overlapping runs and decent crosses into the box whilst they were on the attack. perhaps we could start with a new defence like this: Geremi----Faye---Taylor--- Beye (better than enrique and zog, has pace to cover any mistakes)

Just a thought!!

Why not play Nzogbia next to butt in the middle, would add guile and guts and perhaps we would be able to move the ball around a bit better. Milner---Butt---Zog---Duff ---------Owen---Martins-- Have owen and martins up front 'cos smith is teargas and bring viduka on for ten minutes at the end if he can be arsed... The defence: just play Faye on his own, another three would just complicate things!!

TBH the press have had it fairly easy with us for the last couple of years; comical appointments, infighting, bad results and the deluded masses thinking we'll break the top four at any moment (probably include myself at one point). I do think they( the press) have been unfair since Ashley has been in charge, it seems to me that Ashley and co. are setting up a business model to better Newcastle United whilst at the same time they should start making dollars from us. Lazy journalism and cheap shots just maintain my view that the "broadsheets" are tabloids in black and white print, the level of journalism over all sectors has plummeted seriously over the past couple of years...or is it society itself has dumbed down i8nto a gibbering superficial circus??? Rant over!

I don't know if it's just me but from what I've seen of Enrique at the back he doesn't convince me at all (all games on the telly like!)... I would just about prefer to keep the zog there until he finds his feet. My main gripes about him are: He seems really slow, easily turned and his passes (apart from the long diagonal) are average. I know he's just a lad and I think he might come good but I honestly prefer the positionally suspect Zog to our enrique at the moment... Your comments
