Just been on a southampton forum and the general consensus there is that our centre backs are crap and that if they run at us with pace they will crucify us, few mentions of williamson being a turd. just seems to sum up what all of us, and rest of pre league, can see that it is our weak point. They are also asking for a new centre half (VD from celtic) and are worried that their defense may let them down.

Have to remember he is still quite young (i think?), he should improve year on year and he's only had two (?) seasons in the prem... At the moment he should be our first choice bench warmer for left back/centre back. Good squad player but not what we should be aiming for in our starting line up.

Is he actually alive? I would love to see him replace Colback and find a bit of his old form. Imagine he comes good, Aarons and Ayoze shine, colo finds some of the old magic and Mbemba and Nitrovic playing fist season wonderstuff... Oh, we can dream!

We have no idea how good/bad de jong is yet as he has hardly played for us, whereas we all know what Ayoze can do and how had he works... I really think he should get first crack at No10 as he merits it if only for being the shining light in pardew's shitefest last season!

Yesterday Obertan ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, the guy is so inconsistent that he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. That said, most of our problems came from the fact our final ball was rubbish yesterday, or our fullbacks just decided to play the easy back pass once they had gotten into advanced positions...

If anita and colback start together as the defensive midfielders then our team automatically becomes pedestrian, I would much rather have colback and wijnaldum as the defensive pivots with sissoko, perez/dejong, aarons in front of them. Colback and anita together are just too ordinary ... Personally, I would like to see ayoze ahead of dejong as he is so lively, bring dejong on later to kill off and control matches

anita was consistent in every pass, never took a chance all game, if you looked at their centre of midfield they ran rings around him, he can pass in an average fashion but the team has to carry him on the defensive side. I am not convinced at all!

Aye, another example of classic Alan Pardew mis-management. "There's more to his game than being just a tough tackling midfielder" or something along those lines. Next thing you know he's got him playing as some sort of dithering deep-lying playmaker, looking like Danny Dyer in Mean Machine when he's on the ball - just to try and prove his point and again proving what an egotistical dunce he is. Hope he can get fit again and McClaren manages to get the best out of him as he could be a brilliant asset to us again if he's played purely as an anchorman. This x10!

Just being able to pass the ball out from defense without the whole team shitting itself would be a huge plus!

Wijnaldum, De Jong, Sissoko and Aarons have enough about them in my opinion. It's a better creative group of players than most clubs outside the top six. There's no depth though. Add perez to that and you have some more attacking creativity

I read in the news this morning that Steven caulker is available for around £8m from QPR, why don't we do a double deal for austin and him? He was decent a couple of years back...

He was abysmal yesterday, and against a lower division team. the way the player left him standing in the middle of the pitch and he was no where near recovering the ground. Somebody please sink "battleship mike" ffs!

We really are crying out for a good solid defensive midfielder, if chieck can reproduce some of his top performances we will have a solid midfield. I am sure Mclaren and Co will tell him to recover the ball and pass on simply and quickly if he wants to become the player he was again...

where is chieck tiote? We deffo need some bite in front of the defense. Cisse had a part to play in both goals so we should probably keep the tart and see if we get a repeat of his debut season. Janmaat was the only "defender" we had on the pitch yesterday. really do need a couple of centre backs asap. Apart from that we look ok tbh. Looking forward to seeing Mitrivic and chancel.

Cisse is one of the two; a misunderstood genius surrounded by inept teammates incapable of getting throughballs to his offside trap breaking runs... OR he is a donkey who relies scraps in the box or on beating a defender by the one out of ten times he gets away with an offside beating run. I say sell, one season of wonderous play doesn'tcut the mustard for me, he´s getting on so we should recover (and spend) a half decent fee on somebody with more hunger.

Manu need a world class striker first and then another winger but one who is orthodox rather than a "cut in and shoot" type.
