To be honest I think the whole “purple” thing doesn’t make a whole lot of sense - I’d say Trippier and Tonali are the only players we signed where a lot of football viewers knew they were top drawer. Isak was highly rated but hadn’t yet lived up to billing, Botman wasn’t seen as finished article, experts knew Bruno was mint but many of us hadn’t heard of him I thought. I don’t really think we buy purples, because of PSR and the cartel’s ability to offer better wages.

At the price I think the idea is that Elanga will be a purple in the near future.

Currently I think most of us would accept raising the floor as much as we now seem like we might given how awful the window has been at times, but is it a failure not to add anyone who raises the ceiling? Personally think the signings raise the floor and then Eddie works on them so that they raise the ceiling.

Sure, but honestly I don’t think it makes a huge difference if his current stance is I want to leave and don’t want to play. I think it strengthens our hand in that we aren’t totally fucked if he doesn’t play, but we can stick him on the bench regardless of Wissa being here. Which he isn’t.
