  1. They can afford their current spending because of Russian £billions pumped into their coffers previously. I'm no accountant, but that's how it looks to me.
  2. But they only got to such a positon because of Abramovich's £billions of backing in the first place. You do agree with that maybe? Unless you thought Ken Bates was going to do it?

    Callum Wilson

Yeah, he had three men around him all game today, but still managed to find that inch of space to get his goal. If he plays all season he hits 20 goals no problem.
  4. Yeah maybe they'll ask for a refund on Scamacca and pitch in for this lad instead.

Tammy will give you more in stretching defences so I get why some football people might prefer him. But personally I've always had a purist admiration for the killer finish. There's some players who just seem to know where the goal is, and how to beat a keeper, and it's not always about brute power. Today's goal was a prime example of that. That defender was on him all day and barely gave Wilson a sniff, but he found an inch and not only got it past him, but also nicked it so perfectly that it gathered past the keeper into the far corner. With his back to goal. Some of his goals are breathtaking in execution, and I'll bet Shearer won't miss it on MOTD tonight.
  6. Bruno is the only one he could dispossess tbh, he's a similar stature, and not the quickest so he could actually get to make a challenge without being made to look a mug. I'll bet he didn't dispossess Joelinton much, or get anywhere near him. Same goes for Willock tbh, far too fleet footed for Jack to risk putting his foot in.

I didn't really see that tbh. I thought he was closing down pretty well last season as well under Howe, the only criticism I had was his final touch or pass was sometimes astray. That's still the case now really, but he's shown a great attitude since Howe came in, and as said above, he's still only 22 and could really go on to be a good player. He's covering Miggy levels of ground these days, really box to box. Probably scoring less goals because of it, but his team contribution is much better.
  8. Man U were at one time almost untouchable, not just due to their traditional status as one of England's biggest clubs, but also because they generated more revenue than others. That has allowed them to absorb a few years out of the CL, but I'm sure if you asked their fans, they would not be happy with the owners saddling them with debt so they could profit without risk. Haven't there been pretty vociferous protests against the owners precisely because of that? Can Chelsea ride a bad period to the same extent as a club like Man U? Traditionally they were never THAT big as it's a much smaller catchment area than places like Manchester or Liverpool. I guess it just depends on whether they have become a big enough global brand to overcome that in the modern era.
  9. Said this when I first saw him. He's got better end product, but just doesn't cover the ground as well as Miggy who is far more involved during 90 mins.
  10. Watching us play it out from the back instead of wellying it down the line is orgasmic.
  11. No doubt about it in my mind. At least for the current football era.
  12. It's probably already been said, but probably our best signing since the takeover. I can't think of a single thing I can criticise about his methods. He's meticulous in preparation, knows how to handle his players - they must love him - imagine how you would feel if you were Schar or Burn and you got picked ahead of Botman because you earned it off last season's performances. He speaks lucidly and with intelligence. He's respectful but firm. Oh and his football is a joy to watch. I can barely wait for the next match these days.
  13. They are basically banking on sustaining their success and putting a whole load of money into it in that case. If it works great. If they should have a bad season, say miss qualification from the CL, I would think they would be in a bit of trouble. I think you can follow that sort of policy if you have an owner who has a bottomless pit of money to sink into a club, but I would imagine the new owners will want to see some return on their investment.
  14. That was pathetic like, he only needed to put a slide in and get a toe on it and it's a goal. This is why people doubt he can ever be a truly effective forward.
  15. So does that mean Boehly is funding their spending spree? The new owners must have spent billions buying the club, but it seems they have plenty more in reserve to buy even more players at eye watering prices. I get that Abramovich's earlier "money no limits" spending built up Chelsea from a mid table club into an international brand, but it does seem like they have a bottomless pit of cash they can dip into whenever they want. How can it be sustainable?

    Fabian Schär

He only seems to score belters. It's like he's saying if I look this good, then the goals have got to be a bit special too.

    Callum Wilson

Not many strikers have that sort of instinct to score goals like that. He's lethal.
  18. He played the ball early a few times today, definitely looking to release quicker, just didn't find the killer pass. But not easy when you've only got one man to aim for and he's surrounded by defenders.
  19. Joelinton was MoM for me. Miggy was decent, but he needed to get a finish to make it really count. We need goals from him this season.
  20. I thought the same tbh, he put in some great little crosses low across the box, but there was no one in the box other than Wilson who was being strangled by three defenders.
  21. Hardly noticed him tbh, Seemed like that whole area was dominated by Joelinton.
  22. Did the buyer purchase the debt from Abramovic? Because that's the first I heard of it. As far as I know he is still owed it.
  23. So they did have £1.5bn funds pumped into their coffers from a Russian who is no longer welcome here. It hasn't been paid back, neither is it going to be. I'd love to see them spending the money they are this season if they had £1.5bn less in their accounts.
