ASM may not be Bruces saviour. He was bordering on poor before he was dropped after being publicly criticised by Bruce. Then he's been out for a few weeks with COVID so it will take a while to get back up to speed. Whether or not the motivation will still be there remains to be seen. Hopefully he comes good after it's too late for Bruce

Villas passing and movement was light years ahead of ours. They took their foot off the gas and were a bit complacent when they went 2 up, they couldn't believe how easy it was. Our plan under Bruce is to keep the ball in our own half by passing it square and backwards then once we manage to get over the half way line just run with it and we might get a free kick or something. Arsenal weren't good last night but even though they aren't at their best they are really good at retaining the ball, being patient until they work an opening. If Bruce had any idea he'd be working on this instead of hoofing it up the middle at the first opportunity

Bruce inherited one of the best 3 centre back set ups in the division. When we had Schar (now ignored). Lejeune (now dumped out on loan) and Lascelles who has gone rapidly downhill, it worked a treat. Two ball players who could bring the ball out and pass it, and score the odd goa. Add Dubs and it was a really solid base and with Fernandez and Clark who could step in when needed. That was the start of building a good team
