  1. Bingo, and we are going to be linked with every fucker under the sun if the takeover goes through. well maybe that is good, it gives us something to talk about and we won't know who we are getting until thay have actually signed for us, just like it was under SBR, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Like the Bobby quote that we could buy any defender in the world a week before signing Andy O'Brien? Actually that could have been a Freddy quote
  2. physco* You say Tomato, I say tomato, etc.. Doesn't really work in written form that one
  3. In terms of turnover: Man Utd £166.4m Chelsea £149.1m Liverpool £122.4m Arsenal £115.7m Newcastle £87.1m Spurs £70.6m I'd say that the top 4 are in a league of their own, even financially. And I might be stubborn, or just thick, but I still read what Keegan's saying as the financial gulf clearly seperates the top 4 from Spurs. Turnover isn't a true test of financial performance .... t/o should be taken with a pinch of salt - net profit is what you should be looking at .... failing that Gross Profit bullocks. EBITDA is where its at
  4. Which prevents a player from being registered, as it's against the rules. The rules are quite clear (look what happened to AFC Wimbledon). If you field a player who hasn't been registered correctly, you shall be docked the points gained in any games in which the affected players played. While it's true that the new owners of West Ham are hardly responsible for the sins of the previous ones, why the hell should Sheffield Utd. pay the price? West Ham should have been deducted points, and they would have gone down. You buy the club, you buy the liabilities as well as the assets. If Eggheed and his chums didn't investigate hard enough then they have no right to complain when it bites them in the ass
  5. Are we going to see aminutes silence for the fans who didn't get tickets? Or a protest against the ticket policy? Here's hoping!
  6. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/bolton_wanderers/s/1007/1007400_big_sam_wants_baines.html Big Sam wants Baines Neil Barker 21/ 5/2007 WIGAN defender Leighton Baines is on Newcastle's wanted list. New Magpies boss Sam Allardyce is a big admirer of the England under-21 full-back, and has been monitoring his progress for some time. Glenn Roeder, Allardyce's predecessor, tried to sign Baines, and the new boss is equally keen to complete a deal as he bids to rebuild Newcastle's porous defence. Paul Scharner could also be on his way out of the JJB Stadium, with Everton and Aston Villa believed to be interested in the Austria international. New Latics boss Chris Hutchings - who has been promised a £20m transfer kitty by chairman Dave Whelan - is aiming to attract new players, with Watford's Danny Shittu a potential central defensive signing. Hutchings said: "We have good players at the club and we only want to bring in new ones who want to play alongside the likes of Emile Heskey, Chris Kirkland and Denny Landzaat." Better than what we have, could probably get better but not a bad shout
  7. Not an Arsenal player??? Look ... I know you don't want to lose him, but claiming they won't want him because he is 'not an Arsenal player' is profoundly DELUSIONAL!!! I agree, surely him not being an 'Arsenal' player is exactly why they might be interested in him? The one thing lacking from Arsenals team is an out and out goal scorer - i.e. someone who does little work outside the box but can take the pressure of Henry. I honestly think that an Arsenal with Owen, V.Persie and Henry to choose from up front would win the league next year.
  8. He won't. He'll stay quiet untill the end of the window, if he moves then he'll make some excuse for leaving. If he stays expect a 'I've never said I wnated to leave, I'm happy and settled at the club and look forward to working with the new manager' Beat you to it He won't. When it becomes clear that no significant teams want him, he will stay and, after the event, claim that he never wanted to leave. IMO, he wants out and won't say that because he doesn't want to burn his bridges. Maybe, but I predicted his exact quote! One-all
  9. He won't. He'll stay quiet untill the end of the window, if he moves then he'll make some excuse for leaving. If he stays expect a 'I've never said I wnated to leave, I'm happy and settled at the club and look forward to working with the new manager'
  10. First time was the Milan-Juve final I take it? What a shithole of a game that was too, particularly for those of us with 50 quid on Juve to lift the trophy. Maybe I'm line for a whoosh here, but the first time was back in 2005. Heck I'd even support a French team against the dips!
  11. It wouldn't surprise me if SA does have someone on the payroll to do a similar 'mental' job on the players. Think like winners, act like winners. And other such gobshite
  12. For only the second time in my life I am forced to support an Italian team in a major final. Come on Meeeeelllllaaaannnn!
  13. I think Bent will be going to the bingo club. Egghead has actually bid £15m and I can't see anyone wanting to match that figure. The only hope is that Bent doesn't want to go there but if Charlton dig their heels in, Bent will have the choice of the spanners or the championship, not a lot of difference tbh. Bent, as good as he is, ain't worth £15m. A couple of weeks ago you were adament that all Bent had to do was pass a medical at the Spuds and he was being unveiled on theWednesday. What happened then??!!
  14. Everton did it the season after a relegation battle (and getting thumped by Arsenal on the opening day). We did it from mid-table. Take SPurs out of it and the league bar the top 4 is crap. Anyone can make top 5-6 with a half decent run. If wenger leaves or Rafa buys a shedload of new players with the yankee dollar and they take time to bed in then a place in the top four is up from grabs next season. It may be unlikely from watching last season, but ther's definitely a chance that someone like us or Spuds could fluke CL next year
  15. Perhaps Sidwell has kidnapped Joses Yorkie in an attempt to get the 2 year contract
  16. TBH I'd guess the transcript went something along the lines of... 'It was agreed that after I'd palyed 50 games for the club we would negotiate a better contract. I've now played over 70 games and will now be doing so. I don't want to mess about, I just want it sorted so I can go to Faliraki for the summer then come back refreshed ready for our assalut on the premier league'. Translated as... Taylor is impatient about a new contract not being forthcoming and does not want to be messed around by the club'.
  17. Pav, send Krul on loan so he can get regular football. need three keepers on the books
  18. God the designers were busy for the white, yellow and black ones
  19. Re-read Shepherd's comments yesterday where he says that "This information is coming from people close to the player because it hasn't come from the club." As far as I can see, the only "information" that has been leaked to the paper is £9m being the value of the min release clause. I was going off the video when he was asked and he says no and doesnt look like hes lying. What information was he referring to? A story about the 9m buy-out clause? If its agent led, that is in no way evidence that there is one, just another means of straining the relationship. Owen knows he morally has to stay or most people will regard him as a c***. As much as these boys are selfish multi-millionaires, some are still concerned with reputation. I work with/for people like Fred on a daily basis. They can lie through their teeth and make it look like its gospel. And he only said he can't leave for £9m, the clause may be £10m, it may be £5m. I'd be amazed if there isn't some clause in there allowing Owen to leave for £xm if conditions a,b,c aren't met
  20. Koeman apparently fancies the Fulham job (according to the Mirror)
  21. Aye, spot on unfortunately. This get-out clause is an absolute disgrace though, and is evidence if any more was needed of Shepherd's incompetence. As soon as Owen and his agent started asking for a get-out clause at that sort of reduced price, alarm bells should have been ringing, and Shepherd should have kicked the pair of them out and told Owen to go and rot in Madrid's reserves. We'll still have some utter cretins on here blind to his incompetence though because "we were worse than this pre-1992". The Fat Man SHOULD have said that, but he is the same as sime fans (we're a massive club, BOUND to get into Europe, etc), and he was deseprate, because he had to prove his 'member of the Geordie nation' tag and provide an annual sacrifice to appease the fans. Aye, it was definitely an ego signing. From a business point of view inserting a "sell player on at a huge loss" clause was.....well....just beyond any level of stupidity we've previously seen from Shepherd. The bizarre thing (if you like) is that as far as the acocunts go we won't be making a loss on Owen at all if he goes for £9m, infact we make a small profit. Expect that to go in the annual report
  22. Frog on the Tyne is all fine all fine After Houllieer inspires us to the league/cup double
