  1. Yeah it's in Oswestry, which is one of the most Welsh looking place names on the route from Chester to South Wales (non Motorway of course). Although they retained the TNS abbreviation they changed their name from Total Network Solutions to The New Saints in the mid 2000's with a sponsor change. they are a Welsh FA affiliated club as the original club was from a neighbouring Welsh village and they only merged with Oswestry in the early 00's
  2. This would never happen but it would be great if the likes of Talksport and Sky took an approach for the rest of the season not to discuss the 6 clubs outside of commentaries. Starve them of the oxygen that drives their commercial interests. Of course the aforementioned platforms are completely complicit in the creation of a 'big 4', 'big 6' etc and it's a self fulfilling cycle where they believe that pushing these forward drives viewing/listening figures so it won't happen
  3. I'd rather change the 2 league cups in England Scotland to be a joint competition - maybe even bring in the Welsh league as well. Keep it regional (country) for the first few rounds and then joint later on, or arrange the prize money to ensure that a first round match between Inverness and Plymouth doesn't result in either team losing money. Rotate the final between the 3 countries as well
  4. A bit of a hybrid Scouse/Glaswegian accent developing there in places
  5. Possibly, on the competition aspect. I'd have thought a hot shot lawyer would be able to successfully argue the intention was never to impact the competition within the league and that the award of finishing first (i.e. Champions League) is outside of the stretch of these rules. Even in the event that the league had gone ahead and the clubs used youth/reserve players on a Saturday then as long as they were in a registered squad (and there would no doubt be a different squad for each competition the same way there is for European competition now) then they would be within the letter of the regulations
  6. With a likely lack of punishment fro UEFA or the PL I guess we're going to have to hope that JP Morgan included some hefty exit clauses. If there is an industry more self serving and murky than football than its financial services, they never lose
  7. On what basis though? I doubt the test has any text relating to something that this could be applied to. Basically the test is not fit for purpose
  8. The issue with this is how do the owners dispose of the clubs if they fail the test? It's the same with fans demanding that the owners walk away. The value of these clubs is prohibitive for a 'good' sale, you are looking at hedge funds or similar structures to FSG. Most of the Middle East is out due to other club ownership and I really don't see how PIF can buy any premier league club other than us now, the legal ramifications would dwarf the SL argument for the Premier League. Chelsea fans had no issue when Abramovich was spending hundreds of millions to deliver the Champions League (and saving them from going under remember), Liverpool fans similar with FSG. It's unfortunate to say the least but fans will be the victims of any punishment but there is no real alternative.
  9. But income is and has never been a problem since the advent of the Premier League and Champions League, its the level of expenditure and the vast majority of that is linked to increasing income levels - i.e. players wages, transfer fees and agents. Take the income down 10% and these will need to fall accordingly. Short term there is a problem whilst existing contracts wind through but the existing TV deals should help navigate this period. It's also why the SL won't fix the clubs debt problems. Do we really think Haaland's agent won't be all over the increased revenue and £500k a week suddenly becomes a demand of £1m. A SL league club want to take Neymar in - £500m please
  10. Could simply disband the Premier League and the small 14 rejoin the Football League as part of a massive reset and rebuilt. Bring in the Scottish FA to promote some joint competitions. With some bold and creative thinking this could be a huge opportunity to build and improve on what is already there. Any notion of a big 6 is fluid, 10 years ago Liverpool were hours away from going bust and were midtable despite being a powerhouse 10 years before that. 15 Years ago Arsenal were second only to Man Utd, who were Spurs then exactly? City - third tier weren't they? That's not decrying achievements of any club, its just highlighting that new giants can and will emerge but we will have a good run where everything is up in the air and competition is king
  11. Most of the income goes on wages and agents anyway, income falls then so do wages so proportionally money still filters down. First couple of years would be tough to navigate though
  12. I hope this Super League will never happen. With the way the CL is now running, football has a great product, even with the Europa League. "For me, the Champions League is the Super League, in which you do not always end up playing against the same teams Klopp 2 years ago
  13. Work permit issues may come into play for a few
  14. More likely to get sanctioned for that than for joining the SL in the first place
  15. I'm looking forward to the blue pitches with a huge Pepsi logo in the centre circle and drinks brinks sponsored by Gatorade. Could they not just make it a five a side tournament held in a cage on a big ship?
  16. Rangers and Celtic must be thinking that this gives them a chance of joining the Premier League to help fill avoid. Not that this wouldn't bring it's own issues for Scottish football. The Premier League would recover from losing the big 6, a few years of clubs like Leicester, West Ham, us (?) fighting in a competitive league would soon bring interest right back, the big 6 is a man made concept anyway. Fifa preventing players from playing at World Cups may have a huge impact on the super league as well.
  17. Sheff Utd stay up. Ramifications though, likely to lead to more clubs being promoted from league 1....
  18. Interesting question - if Barca got kicked out of La Liga would the registration they have for Messi become invalid and he's therefore a free transfer (and repeat across all the clubs)
  19. Yeah I don't think it will happen but Masters must be thinking he's being shat upon by those he has been working for. Shame
  20. In a dramatic fu Masters now waves in PIF
  21. Wonder if Sheff Utd have one of those upticks in form that relegated teams sometimes have. If either us, Brighton or Burnley don't pick up 3 points then it will get interesting. If Fulham do get out of it I think it will he Burnley who go. Either way I think we'll know after the City game, it's only us and/or Fulham picking up points in the last 2 games
