The tyne corridoor has a population of 880000, liverpool has 430000 Yes, Liverpool as a city is 430,000. Merseyside is 1.4m Newcastle as a city is 190,000. Tyneside is 900,000.

Liverpool has a much bigger population than Newcastle. More than double.

Sometimes I long to be following a 'normal' club, where not much happens out of the ordinary from day to day. Other times I'm not so sure if that's what I really want. It would be rubbish to support someone like Middlesbrough or Reading were nothing ever happens.

While I agree they are not stupid. They are not loyal to us and they are looking at business investments, so why would you pay that extra £70 million when Everton is probobly an equally attractive prospect. Because Everton don't have the stadium. I think the asking price for the shareholding in Newcastle would be a lot more than the shareholding in EFC but when you add in our debts and stadium costs we'd end up being a more expensive proposition.

This is crazy

In reality what mitigates aginst buying Everton is the ground. And, I must say, only the ground. Fantastic club, fantastic support, outstanding manager, good squad but you need a major investment on the ground. Otherwise, imo, no argument. Yeah for most potential investors it would be but maybe the more rich/ambitious would like the opportunity of building a new ground somewhere with surrounding developments by their own companies. If they're an egomaniac they could even name the stadium after themselves

His son was at one of our pre-season friendlies and there's a rumour they will be at the Standard Liege game on thursday I still don't expect Bill to sell though. It will turn out that these billionaires aren't "the right person" to take over the club

Any player joining Liverpool should get a good burglar alarm

Yeah, I get mugged everytime I leave the house mate. I'm terrified. -
I just don't see why Gerrard MUST come back in. Sure he's a good player for his club but we don't need him in this system. Put the team before the players. Not aimed at you btw. We all know he's going to come back in though, I'm just wondering if moving him 20 yards up the pitch. It's a question of picking him in the position which is going to benefit the team. Just off Rooney might just work imo. Didn't they already try that last season? Trying to replicate his link up with Torres and it just never worked at all.

You haven't got Serb roots have you?

Sergei Rebrov launches repulsive racist rant

I would say Charlton is nearer to Tottenham than it is to Croydon (as the crow flies), although both Charlton and Croydon are south of the river. (they're all Crystal Palace fans in Croydon) Yeah I was thinking that. Tottenham is North London & Croydon is deep, deep South London. Smertin must've got robbed or something in Croydon although I don't know why he would be there in the first place. Smertin played for Charlton didn't he? That's not too far from Croydon I would say Charlton is nearer to Tottenham than it is to Croydon (as the crow flies), although both Charlton and Croydon are south of the river. Have been to some lovely bits of Peckham and New Cross though -
No Beckham and no Gerrard & Lampard together and England play really well. Who'd have thought it? It's only what everyone has been saying for years.

What's been the consensus with your lot about Moyes being linked to us? Not saying there's owt in it like. Nobody is worried or taking it seriously at all. I can't believe the odds were so short for a while, I think I saw 6/1. He was even as low as 12's at some bookies for the West Ham job ffs
-
The West Ham board have really put their necks on the line here, bringing in such an inexperienced guy who also just happens to be a legendary figure at one of the clubs rivals. If Zola gets off to a bad start then the crowd will be on his back in no time.

Great assist for the first by Lescott tbh.

Don't worry about Everton being taken over, it WILL NOT happen in the forseeable. Kenwright has knocked back Randy Lerner amongst others and it was even down in black and white on the planning application for the new stadium that the current major shareholders were not willing to sell the club. We're not for sale despite what he says in the media. He's waiting for the final verdict on the Kirkby stadium, if it gets the go ahead his share price will go up.

Can a Director of Football work in English Football
1878 replied to Colos Short and Curlies's topic in Football
I don't think it can work unless: 1- the manager and DoF are appointed at the same time 2- the manager has worked in the same structure before (so a foreigner basically) -
Billy Davies, Chris Hutchings, Little Sam, Big Sam, Steve Bruce all went last season. The Premier League is a pirhana tank regardless... The difference being your list of managers went, with the possible exception of Bruce, for poor performance on the pitch, whereas Kaka's list of managers IIRC went for none football related matters such as interference over signings and player sales. Which is exactly what this whole mess with Keegan is about. Yes, I know he hasn't walked/been sacked yet but his position looks pretty much untenable now, he looks to have been undermined by the system that Mike Ashley put in place after hiring him. Which would surely put Ashley in with the same owners that Kaka is criticising. I find his post bizzare really. He put 2 and 2 together and got 5.
-
I've said for years there should be a maximum squad size (including designated slots for homegrown players) and a wage cap. It's the only way football can carry on without imploding imo. I'll still think that even if Kenwright sells up to the Sultan of Brunei tomorrow.
-
Even if he is now staying, don't you think this whole fiasco makes Keegan's position virtually untenable?
-
£10m for Faddy?! The £6m we got was great business.

tbh I'm not surprised he has gone due to the power struggle rumours with Wise What's surprised me is the timing. I thought he'd see the season out.
