  1. £3m is the max I'd be comfortable seeing us pay. Hopefully we'll give him a new lease of life. Very strange move for him mind.
  2. Hope we haven't spend big cash on this. A meh signing for me.

  4. Results not going our way tonight. C'Mon Fulham!

    Jonas Gutierrez

WTF? Some of you lot are unreal. He's our only threat from midfield and people still look for reasons to slate the guy. Secondly, if he was surrounded by a tiny bit of quality, he might have half a chance of looking like the player he could be. WTF? Some of you lot are unreal. You've just admitted you've hardly seen him!!

  7. QFT. He's off to Real Madrid, you know! Wouldn't impose himself for Real Ale Madrid the gutless wonder.

    Jason Culina

Yep - my concern is that he really blossomed under Hiddink, but how would he go under the stewardship of a more mediocre manager? For me, he's one of maybe three or four Australians worthy of playing for (my ideal) NUFC... Who are the others, out of interest?
  9. A swap deal for Bale would be good business imo.
  10. Woeful last time, don't know why he would be any better a few years later, alongside people nowhere near as good as Tugay was back then. Should be thankful Rangers won't be prepared to let him go.
  11. He'll provide them with a new dimension. I've watched him over the past few games and he's developed an awareness that was lacking earlier in his career. He's aware of how the defence is set-up and uses the spaces available on the park to a devastating effect teamwise. He makes even more intelligent runs than he used to and looks as direct and pacy as he ever did. Of course, the only question mark regarding him was his fitness and it remains so, but put him in a quality team (like ours?) and he'd be better than he was in his first term here. Sorry but can't agree with the bit in bold. The most significant question will always be about his attitude. He's a timebomb. Always has been, always will be.
  12. All sounded good until I realised that the feckless wonder couldn't spot a better left back than Riise after scouring the whole of Argentina and Chile.

    Kieron Dyer

There's not much between them in terms of quality or style of play tbh, not that people will like to admit it. Think you're right the main difference is acceleration for me. How we could do with another spiderman in the middle though. Edit - Oh, and injury history/Fitness too. Obviously.
  14. Great draw. I actually fancy Lyon. Random but I think they'll pull off a shock. My picks as of now: Sporting Lisbon v Bayern Munich Lyon v Barcelona Real Madrid v Liverpool Inter v Man Utd Arsenal v Roma Chelsea v Juventus Villarreal v Panathinaikos Atletico Madrid v Porto Looking forward to these. For once.

Failed to achieve his huge potential. Glad we got rid when we did. Undoubtedly, with the right coaches and application from him, he could've been a legend. We miss his pace and ability to run at people through the middle of the park. That's never been replaced as has already mentioned. My biggest regret with him is that we didn't cash in when the rumoured move(s) to Man Utd and/or Leeds were talked about.
  16. 140/1 for Hughes to be the next Sunderland Manager. Worth a silly few quid?
  17. Very likely that's the case but the fact that we didn't sign any high-profile players these summer (apart from Jonas and Colo) suggest that either Keegan's targetting unrealistic players or Ashley didn't willing to spend the cash anymore. Or maybe we weren't offering them ridiculous terms anymore and hence the attraction to NUFC was less than in previous years?
  18. If we could 'chance' five £2m purchases from the squads/reserves of the top four and only a few of them came off (Such as Guthrie, Larsson at Brum, Bentley for Blackburn etc) we'd be in a much better place. I think that, coupled with buying plenty of juniors and a smattering of experienced players could be the recipe to take us up the league.
  19. QFT. Ridiculous. Any fucking thing I can do to stop this from turning into another Keegan fight. Appreciated mate. If this was a boozer you'd have to walk on fucking eggshells though. It'd be full of little cliques whispering to each other 'don't criticise KK to that lot over there'....................'don't mention Freddie to that old fella'....................shhhhhhh 'whatever you do, don't praise Ashley'.
  20. In my humble opinion (and this could go in any number of threads I suppose) Ashley's blueprint for his NUFC ownership is the only way we'll can be competitive unless we unearth some reckless Arabs with more money than sense. Due to the strength of the top four (or five now with Villa), we're not going to reach their level in the foreseeable future so we've got to steadily invest in good players (see Colo and Jonas), gradually improve the squad (see Bassong and Guthrie) and unearth top young talent as well as we can (See Spear, Ranger etc). I've been huge advocate of this approach since day one. I think Ashley's made some recruitment and policy mistakes along the way (Such as Llambias and his comms policy) BUT when he leaves us I'll hope the new Owner(s) adopt the same principles in trying to make us sustainable and competitive for the long term. If people could take the personalities out of it (i.e: we hadn't known Wise the player) everyone would be raving about what a fantastic job he'd done. Without doubt. I'll also give him credit for sticking with the job rather than taking the easy option. It's not like he needs the money or hassle. Put's tin hat on.
  21. Just 3 points between 3rd bottom and the top half of the table. Madness.
